Would make an interesting wee walk some weekend.... The Rangers Trail 1. Flesher's Haugh. Birthplace of Rangers Football Club. The Club played its first game here in May 1872, a 0-0 draw with Callander, and stayed for three years. Peter McNeil had to arrive several hours before kick-off every Saturday and claim a patch of the recreation ground on which his team could play. 2.Clyde Amateur Rowing Club Boathouse. The original boathouse that our Founders would have used in the early 1870s. It was situated almost directly across from the current locat 3. 40 Hutcheson Street, Site of The Metropolitan Restaurant owned by Tom Vallance. 'Honest Tom' hosted a 21st Anniversary celebration here in 1898 toasting our first appearance in the Scottish Cup Final in 1877. He told players from both clubs: "The same spirit that characterised football in the old days has gone. It has been reduced to a purely mercenary matter." 4. 89 Glassford Street, Ancell's Restaurant. Rangers held many after match functions here, most notably in August 1887 when Peter McNeil gave a speech after the match against 'The Invincibles' of Preston North End to celebrate the opening of the first Ibrox Park. 5. 36 Buchanan Street. Ferguson and Forrester's.Rangers held a dinner here on Monday April 9th 1923 to mark the Club's jubilee. Diners tucked into a feast that included saumon bouilli, sorbet au mandarin and cour de filet de boeuf. 6. House of Fraser, Buchanan Street. Originally built in the 19th century for Stewart and McDonald, retail giants and supporters of Rangers in the early years. John McNeil, father of Peter and Moses, was gardener for John McDonald at Belmore House, where Moses was born in 1855. It is now part of the Faslane Naval base. 7. 91 Union Street. site of the second H and P McNeil sports outfitter store. Harry and Peter moved here in 1883 and stayed until the business closed circa 1896. 8. 21-23 Renfield Street. Site of the original H and P McNeil sports outfitters. They provided kits for all sports and all teams throughout Britain and were also official outfitters to the Clydesdale Harriers SUBWAY to St.Georges Cross 9. 29 Baliol Street. Moses was living here in 1901, when it was known as Stanley Street, as a lodger. He was listed in the census as a brush and oils salesman. 10. Burnbank. Rangers moved here in 1875 and stayed for one year. Rangers originally shared the recreational space with rugby club Glasgow Accies. The Caledonian Cricket Club also played on the site. 11. 32 Gibson Street (three up, first door, name on door). Peter McNeil and his family moved here circa 1897 as his mental decline became more marked. Wife Janet was forced to take in lodgers in a bid to pay the £25 a year rent. It was Peter's last address in Glasgow before his move to Hawkhead Asylum. 12. Kelvingrove Park. Known as West End Park in March 1872 when the idea to establish a club, to become to be known as Rangers, was discussed by Moses and Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell and William McBeath 13. 37 Bentinck Street. Peter McNeil and family living here in 1891. 14. 169 Berkeley Street. Elizabeth McNeil, sister of Peter and Moses, ran a home from home for her brothers and her friends from the address for many years. Moses, Peter and William all stayed here, has did John and James Campbell, brothers of Peter. It was to here the McNeils' parents, John and Jean, returned in the late 1880s before their deaths in 1890. 15. 17 Cleveden Street. Elizabeth, Peter, James, Harry and William McNeil were all living here in 1871. In the same close also lived William McBeath, his sister Jane and their mother, also Jane. BUS - # 9 or 62 to Partick from St.Vincent Street at St.Vincent Terrace 16. Hamilton Crescent. West of Scotland Cricket Club. Scene of our first Scottish Cup Final on the 17th March 1877 v Vale of Leven which ended in a very controversial 1-1 draw. The first replay on April 7, which ended in the same scoreline, was also played here. The games drew incredible crowds of 12,000 and 15,000. The third match was played at the first Hampden Park and was won by the men from Alexandria, 3-2 SUBWAY- to Cessnock and a BUS # 3,9,54,55,56 to Craigton Cemetery. 17. Craigton Cemetery. Legends of Rangers are buried here, including Bill Struth and Peter and Willie McNeil. The McNeils' parents, John and Jean, are also buried in the same lair as their sons. In plots either side lay two other McNeil brothers, James and Alexander, and their families. Charlie me thinx this would be a very educational parade, can we arrange a little bit of music to accompany us.

i deleted the post in fact i have deleted all my posts on the site this morning as i dont want to upset the blue rinse brigade & the noddy"s,as i have said before the truth hurts
Dont understand why you removed your post Andy if it was the one regarding that petition in the shop window in the Gallowgate...you are one of 'the ground troops' Andy and are probably more aware of what is happening 'out on the streets' than most of us on here. As for upsetting people there was nothing in any of your posts that I considered to be offencesive and unless you were directly abusive towards anyone then I did not see any reason for me to delete any of your posts. As for the truth hurts...it doesn't always follow that what you say is the truth but to highlight another side to the story is good for debate and as I say there are three sides to every story your version , their version and the Truth. Knowing you as I do Andy I am quite sure that you will always be happy to be be in the vanguard and be 'a Torchbearer of the Truth'. ;D Jeezes H Christ we are getting a right flighty and huffy crowd on these boards thesedays...I personally blame they Pakis for it all.
Thats good enough for me mucker, will back soon.of to n/shift..

Andy Pal. Do not turn this into a religious divide because it is not. Two of your supporters are Celtic / Tims. One said " I think what the guy said , taken in context it was said , was not racist " Caterina and I think it was.!! The other thinks that as Prince Harry said it then it is OK.. Caterina and I think it is not. !! Now Caterina is a Celtic Supporter and I am a Rangers Supporter yet we are as one on this. We think to call someone a PAKI because of the colour of their skin, under any contex , is morally wrong and neither of us would ever do this far less try to justify it . Now I can be disappointed at some of the people who supported this but I am often disappointed at some peoples behavior. However I defend their right to proffer their opinion and would never fall out with someone for taking a different line than me. I can sense some getting angry, please do not . I am not. I love debate . I only get angry at lies and personal insults. So far none on this Thread even if some huge differences of opinion. So mote it be just noticed this post,is it me ur on at

Todays newspaper..............BUY celts 5 game package -get a ticket for 2morrow BUY gers season ticket get a ticket for 2morrow, So much for the waiting list of 10000.s for season books for the old firm, during the hard times, surely all clubs in the scottish game could come to some arrangement, make a set price for each of the league"s,without the support of social clubs most of the teams in the lower divisions would be closed.

what's going on at rangers football club? are they in dire financial trouble or what?? smith hasn't sighned any players at all, and if anybody comes in for his best players, they will be sold, theres talk rangers can't even afford to renew walter smiths contract, which runs out sometime in january how true is that does anybody know??? so a good run in the champions league is needed I wonder if thats why murray stood down???. Another load of ""MAGUMBIA"that G.R.F.C.haters in the scottish media are spreading about the club,we will never ever go down the road that the foreign club from the east-end went down.financial trouble the only money spent by that lot in the london rd was income from the last 4 yrs in the CL.(FACT) In 50yrs following G.R.F.C. i have never known a bear to want the foreigners from the east-end to win anything & all those numtee"s who go on radio phone in"s or write into letter pages stating """am a gers fan"" i want so & so to win.1 load of Sh---.I cant believe that any true fan would would want another team to progress no matter who you support. I am not a bigot just 110% true blue & dont give a Fonkey"s Muck what anybody thinks

[http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j213/Camlachie/72k40o3.jpg[ Remember that day if it was yesterday,we left Stevenson Taylor"s pub in camlachie on a double decker bus,if i recall this was Tam McRobie(stamford st.)+Wullie Sommervill(gallowgate)above the general wolfe. 1st old firm game,as usual all the east-end bears met at passage way13,after the 1st goal 100s of the bear"s headed for the exit, then when the Gers equalized as they say the rest is history,as young lad"s we got carried with the crowd we managed to get back up the stairs, a few of us headed towards the derry shed as it was called then, and went out through the celtic end,we met up with John McCabe who was on the Sideline bus,he got us on that, what gang we where in was out the window as they say, when we got back to stevie taylor"s,11 of us where unaccounted for,by late saturday night it was only Tam & Wullie who where missing & 3 where detained in the southern general... P.S.some well known families went on that bus. Wrights,Glovers,Kirkwoods.Britains,Bain,Flemmings,McCauslands, Faulds,Riley"s to name but a few..oh happy days

The Trophy Room - A House of Treasures Article by farley1968 Sunday, 3rd February 2008 Take a tour of the Ibrox Trophy Room. Originally the room housed three huge glass-panelled mahogany show cases but as the years progressed and more items were collected from around the globe, this was doubled to six. The Main Trophy Cabinet, Centenary Cabinet, Loving Cup Cabinet, Youth Cabinet and Churchill Cabinet, just some of the names of these huge show cases filled with a spectacular display of silverware, porcelain, crystal and memorabilia stretching back to the foundation of the cl The European Cup Winners' Cup This is a replica of the trophy The Rangers won on a memorable night in the Nou Camp, Barcelona on 24th May 1972. On their run to the 1972 Final they defeated the best France, Portugal, Italy and West Germany had to offer. The Final itself against Moscow Dynamo, was an exciting affair with The Rangers storming to a 3-0 lead before eventually being pegged back to 3-2. When the final whistle sounded, The Rangers had recorded their greatest ever victory and at the third time of asking, they had claimed this trophy ECWC the 1 in the trophy room was donated to RFC.by Robert Marshall,(Louden-Tavern) I have had the trophy out on loan on 3 occassions at charity functions that i have held.on another occassion i took it into Cotters Bar,& gave it to Deansy/Andrews to get their pics took with it,ended up they had it for 2hrs..... THE KATOWICE VASE.... In the 1988/89 season,The Rangers played Polish club G.K.S. Katowice in the First Round of the UEFA Cup. The Poles presented Rangers with this beautiful trophy when they visited Ibrox for the First Leg. It is carved from solid coal and is a wonderful addition to the Trophy Room. Rangers won the first leg 1-0 and a fantastic away performance in Poland saw them progress 5-2 on aggregate.... The vase was carved by a young lad in his teens & was given to the club(Katowice) by him when he found out that RFC where playing in his native city, the young man in question was an expert on rfc.history, his ambition in life was to meet Jim Baxter.i took him to ibrox for a tour of the stadium in1993 thanx to one IAN FERGUSON.....
