Part of the road, from Greeen Street to Bridgeton Cross was previously known as Canning Street and Named after George Canning, who was Prime Minister.
Part was previously known as Great Hamilton Street and named after John Hamilton of North park, who was a Magistrate.
100/108 : Salvation Army hostel, built in 1906 with accommodation for 370 persons. Now the site of a housing development.

381 : The Pleasance Leather Works, completed in 1868 for John Burt, machine belt maker. Demolished.
457 ; A warehouse, built around 1902 for Craig Riddell, wine and spirit merchant. later became the premises of George Graham Ltd., potato merchants, Demolished.
449 : A workshops, built in 1877 for J B Herbertson. later became Rose's Homes model lodging house, and then FEDS furniture removers.

1053 : London Road Sawmills, premises of A T Begg, timber merchants. Demolished.
1855 : The Govancroft Pottery, foundd in 1914 by the Govancroft Pottery Co. It was the last pottery to exist in Glasgow before its closure in the 1980's. Now the site of a housing development.
484 : Arcadia Cinema, opened in 1940 to a design by W B Inglis, with a capacity of over 1400 seats. Closed as a cinema in 1962. Later used as a bingo hall. Demolished1971.

217 : St Alphonsus RC Church, built in 1905 to a design by Pugin & Pugin. Still in use.

1400 : Belvidere Hospital, built in 1887 as an isolation hospital for infectious diseases. The land was originally owned by Glasgow merchant John McCall. The site is presently under development for housing.

Outside the Windsor Bar on the 7th of October 1995, a 16 year old man was stabbed to death. a 22 year old man was later charged with murder.
At number 1288 three youths were stabbed and seriously injured at a house party on the 3rd of November 1967.
At number 1288 a 7 year old boy died when a wall in the back court collapsed on top of him on the 22nd of August 1968.
At number 820 a 22 year old plumber was killed when he fell from the roof of the tenement on the 17th of September 1968.
A 2 year old girl was knocked down and killed near to the junction with Fordneuk Street on the 10th of October 1968.
A 26 year old man was stabbed to death at the junction with Charlotte Street on the 4th of November 1961.
At number 347 a 21 year old man was attacked at the close mouth and murdered on the 27th of January 1962.
At number 1218 a 19 year old woman died of gas poisoning in a house accident on the 17th of March 1962.
An 82 year old woman died when she was knocked down by a bus near to the junction with Springfield Road on the 5th of July 1963.
A 4 year old boy was knocked down and killed near to the junction with Dunn Street on the 1st of April 1964.
A 60 year old woman was killed by a hit and run driver near to the junction with Helenvale Street on the 5th of December 1964.
A 4 year old boy was knocked down and killed near to the junction with Mauldslie Street on the 22nd of February 1965.
A 13 year old boy was killed when his bicycle collided with a lorry near to Summer Street on the 7th of July 1965,
