Thousands of empty seats around Celtic Park tonight against Vienna just like there were when Rangers played at Ibrox on Tuesday. Is this a sign of the times i.e. economic crisis or are people simply not prepared to pay over the odds for over rated football by both clubs.
Just off the Rangers official board a few minutes ago and they are adverising tickets for Sunday's Old Firm game at Ibrox. Here's the catch you have to buy a season ticket to get your hands on them...so what happened to the waiting list for season tickets that Rangers have been going on about for the last few years = Murray's spin yet again. And it seems that Celtic aren't much better as they try to sell the idea that there is a a waiting list for Celtic Park as well = aye you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the time. A ticket for Ibrox and Celtic Park sold for say a figure of £25 max would've guaranteed a full house at both grounds this week. Bad marketing is my opinion as they cannot expect the supporters from Northern Ireland to travel over for European games and pay European packages plus extra travel costs on top of their season tickets.
However there is a melt down all over the British football scene. One only has to look at the televised games from England each weekend Wigan , Blackburn and Bolton their grounds are only three quarters full...even when Chelsea are there. is there far too much football and people are not impressed by what is on offer and therefore preferring the comfort of watching from the comfort of their own homes or amongst friends in their local boozers or social club.
Me personally I have resigned myself to the fact that I will not be paying any more money into the coffers of the club that I love until Mr.Murray switches the lights out as he leaves the building. I am currently making plans to go and see Watford in at least three of their away games in Northern England this year plus one or two home games...what is the betting I won't be hassled by thirty bob stewards , eye balled by would be fascist police...unless I visit Manchester... for not sitting down or even having the audacity to shout or fart at a fitba game.
Celtic and Rangers playing in England won't make them any better fitba teams all it will do is empty our pockets even more. And the novelty of travelling over the border will soon wear off ...and who knows how the English will react to anti-English and British songs and chants from that weird breed of Scotsman who flies a foreign flag to show his support of a supposed Scots team.
