Yes Gibbsy, my memories are dark, but remember that was before the buildings were all cleaned up. My memories are of all that beautiful stonework covered in soot and grime, The umbrella did not look too clean either

Thanks Charlie never heard of the Union Jack referred to as that. Always thought of the Brits as representing Freedom, where did the Butcher ref come from?. As I have told you often, I am ashamed of my lack of historical knowledge. At High school we had to choose between French and History and I chose French. Now all these years later I have never spoken a word of it since school, but we live with history, are both proud and sometimes ashamed of it, as I am in these times in South Africa

Think my mum worked there for a wee while in the 60s. Beginning to feel embarrassed about the pubs she worked in, but daddy was a gambler and we were wee so she had to work in pubs when I came home from school

Arnie, is that the Crown at the corner of Bellgrove and Gallowgate. If so, Allan and I used to go there when we were going out. He used to tell me to mind my own business and if there was a fight to lift my glass off the table and shut up. We like C&W then and they had great bands but the best turn was the Sally Army guy singing The Old Rugged Cross. He sold loads of War Cry. they also had these lights that showed up your bra under a white blouse, so we all wore white blouses. Aye those were the days all right

I walk with my girls every morning on the beach. i carry a wee plastic bag with my car keys, doggy teats and pooh packets. I give packets to the weekend dog walkers and holiday makers, cos all us regulars carry our own. BUT what about the horses. They drop their S..t all over, including the bathing beaches, it is against the law, but they advertise in all the holiday mags and ride every morning in the summer. Very few people here walk their dogs on the road cos we all have dogs and they all go crazy when people walk past. People who walk their dogs should be fined if they do not lft the doggy doo

It's a difficult thing to explain, this passion about our pets.We grew up with a menagerie, but dogs have always been my best. Have always loved and cared for them, but with working and the children, they were just that, PETS. then when the children left home and we had more time on our hands, we spent more special times with our dogs, but these two we have now are even more special as they were rescued. The one from the most awful circumstances, the other was on death row in our local SPCA. We walk every morning, they follow me around until I go to work and wait for me to come home. They love everybody until they get too close to the car or to me. They ask for nothing except my love and undivided attention at times. Allan is just as soppy about them as I am. As I said, I am a dog person except for the cats at work, Have nothing against birds, fish etc, but not my cup of tea

We used an option when we left Zims and gave our wonderful pavement special to "Friends" as we did not know where we would be living and she was a big dog. She disappeared from their house and we never knew what happened to her. I was devastated, on reflection, I would rather have had her put to sleep at leasst I would know what happened to her and that she had not been mistreated, as they lived out in the bush and anything could have happened to her. I still cry thinking about it. Think that is why I am paranoid about leaving here and what to do about our girls. Although I am getting pretty resigned to quarantine

Think I must lead a very sheltered life here in RSA. What in heaven's name has wearing the Rememberance Poppy or the shamrock got to do with Well Done Rangers. I have not worn the Shamrock since I left primary school (St Paul's Shettleston and Tollcross) But I wear the Poppy every year when I can find them. Also go to the Rememberance Parade at our local Shellhole
