Hi Carltondefender, I know just how you felt, because our house was brocken into at 410 janefield st, that was in 1962, then two weeks later , they broke in again, when we were at my moms funeral. I have no love for housebreakers, and I hope I never catch anyone breaking into my house, because if I do,I,ll be the one going to jail, and I,ll be charged with murder. wen we cot the borglars in the house the 2nd time me & 6 brothers just came back with ma wee da fae the cameroon bar wot a lot of fun we had with the 2 of them, sorry that i cant desribe it on here, but lets say they wer the 1st multi coloured streakers in the east end

jist auld factories Dazzle that are still there.. but it lets folk who lived there remember where their hooses and shops once stood... ma auntie lived right across fae that big arched windae, its no a big door . so a think even ugly buildings take on a meaning... what a place fordneuk st was when we where kids the neighbours where the best i"ve known, shopkeepers where also superb.going along broad st to see all the buildings gone is a sad sight,i recall the stormy nite when the salvage corps building collapsed like a pack of cards,it was sited just behind where they built the homeless hostel..

The End For Bowls....... Bowling greens in the capital face being turned into tennis courts it emerged last night, Council chiefs in Edinburgh said users numbers at its 5 greens have plummeted by up to Two Thirds since 2007... They are now considreing closing the sleepy venues & converting them into to cater for more popular sports.Ex-world bowls champions David McGill warned we are looking at the extinction of the game. But a council spokesman said "We are aiming to provide a better match between sports facilities and the needs of local communities

It's such a shame Charlie, it used to be such a popular game but bowling clubs everywhere are suffering now...do you think it might be because us auld codgers are more interested in the internet than going out in the fresh air to take up a sporting hobby? ;D most of them on saturday night are darby & joan clubs,my club is the same it holds 160 now there lucky if they get 40 most saturdays & the biggest part of them are on soft drinks,we have a band on every saturday night at a cost of £120 + they finish at 11pm the hall is empty by 11.10pm but they refuse to hire it out saturdays nights am no young guy but if we dont change then we have no complaints

How patronising is it to assume all young guys are 'Buckie Drinkers' Secondly, what's wrong with somebody that drinks Buckie, if that's the drink of their choice. The young guy next door to me, in employment, married father of two, good neighbour and good guy, drinks Buckie, because that's what he likes. m The bowling club you were at caltondefender are getting it wrong on so many levels, and yes, you're probably right....they wont survive. my thoughts exactly not every person who drinks buckie are ""neds""he wonders why his club is empty he told my mate not to give me an application form

a few of us from eastmuir where at night in a bowling club in east end,i was sitting having a drink with the president he said the membership was falling drasticly,i asked why dont you advertise for young guys to come along and try it out his reply we dont want any buckie drinkers in this club, i said thats why young blood dont drink in your club & this time next year it"ll l be another part of east end history

What a great boost to their funds that will be Charlie. So many Bowling clubs are struggling to survive these days, it's so nice to hear good news like this bowling clubs are suffering because they would not change with the times, tried to join a few clubs in the 80s only to be knocked back for reasons that where never explained, been to 3 in the east end in the last couple of weeks still same people with the same attitude as they where in the 70s/80s (ie. thats been my seat for 40yrs ) the other reason is the age of the membership mostly 60s & over, they done nothing to encourage young people to take up the sport.

Me and two former Rivvy girls Agnes Chalmers and Agnes Grant model the new Rivvy t-shirts...yesterday at the Carwood Centre in Bridgeton. We are awaiting delivery of our other designs which would be a smaller motif on the left breast side of the shirts. i81.photobucket.com/albums/j213/Camlachie/Riverside/SAM0559zpsba4438c1.jpg [/IMG]
think a nice bright pink would be nice

is agnes chalmers fae tobago st, if its the same lady i went to school with her son John I believe you are right Andy...Agnes worked all her days in the Briggait and the Barras and I believe her son has a furniture shop in Shettleston Road. Small world ... She is also a Parkheid wumman by birth her family used to own stables directly facing where the Library now stands in and around the Sorby Street area...I am waiting on her bringing me in the photos of these long demolished buildings. One diamond of a lady, john used to take me home for dinners with him,she was a briggit girl for as long as i can recall 2 of her sons(eddie/james) still have the furniture shop in shettleston rd
