Commenting about a race does NOT make a racist, Etta I remember being in Copenhagen to see the Rangers about 20 years ago and ended up staying in a hotel in the red light district. We were partying all night and when we surfaced with a few sore heids in the morning we ended up walking about looking for a bar that was still open. I was surprised when I walked into one sector of the area and it was all Pakistani shops and Pakistani flags...whit the feck have Pakis got to do with the Danes I remember thinking. Later on that day we ended up in Churchull's Bar in the main square and got into conversation with some older Danes. Of course the bold one here had to ask 'why are all these Pakis in Denmark as I never knew you Vikings invaded Pakistan'. Of course we all made light of my comment until one of the old guys said ' they are the black Jews'. I never gave it much thought until I came home and then realised where the old guy was coming from with his statement. Of all ethnic groups in this country I reckon that they are the most despised and most Indians and black people I know hate them with a vengeance.

Andy Pal. Do not turn this into a religious divide because it is not. Two of your supporters are Celtic / Tims. One said " I think what the guy said , taken in context it was said , was not racist " Caterina and I think it was.!! The other thinks that as Prince Harry said it then it is OK.. Caterina and I think it is not. !! Now Caterina is a Celtic Supporter and I am a Rangers Supporter yet we are as one on this. We think to call someone a PAKI because of the colour of their skin, under any contex , is morally wrong and neither of us would ever do this far less try to justify it . Now I can be disappointed at some of the people who supported this but I am often disappointed at some peoples behavior. However I defend their right to proffer their opinion and would never fall out with someone for taking a different line than me. I can sense some getting angry, please do not . I am not. I love debate . I only get angry at lies and personal insults. So far none on this Thread even if some huge differences of opinion. So mote it be

Billydan, using the word Paki to describe someone from Pakistan is in my view racist and this defence of "oh it's not being used in a derogatory manner" just doesn't stand up. I didn't use the defence of "oh it's not being used in a derogatory manner", Caterina, so ah don't know who you're quoting. I didn't use that, or any other defence, because I see nothing that needs defended. You may believe it is racist - I don't, and I haven't seen any reason given why your view should be right and mine wrong. I don't say that there aren't people who use the word "Paki" as a term of abuse, but even perfectly innocent words can be so used. The Americans used the word "Charlie" to describe the Vietcong during the Vietnam war - does this make "Charlie" (the word, no the webbie ;D) racist? Ah don't think so.

Sadly in the world that we live in some people are just so feckin flighty and hyper sensitive to the least we bit of non PC lanquage...and their immediate response to anyone who does not share their word sensitivity is to call those who disagree with them as a racist , bigot, sexist, secterian , homophobic , fascist or Nazi. Well I'll tell you what I won't waste any sleep over it as I am what I am so you either take me as you find me or you just don't take me at all...simple as that.

I don't feel the words "paki", "chinky", "jap" etc are themselves racist, however I choose not to use these words as others deem them offensive and I would never dream of offending people deliberately.
Quite a few years ago my mum was telling my young brother and I about a new couple who had moved into her building. She was obviously trying to use the correct phraseology as Alan sometimes tends to treat us like one of his school pupils, but instead of telling us they were a lesbian couple she said " a couple of dykes have moved in round the corner"!!! I still have a giggle remembering the look on Alan's face ;D

Ok folks by saying that you consider the use of the word 'Paki' racist you are therefore implying that to use this word makes one a racist...now who is insulting who now. I can only speak for myself here but I would never knowingly contribute or regularly click into or go onto any board whereby the person who runs the said board was blatantly racist. To be quite honest with you I have more to be getting on with in my life than to worry about some ethnic and a very large ethnic minority at that being called a Paki rather than a Pakistani - maybe we should revert back to the attitude of the guy my wife bumped into in the Indian takeaway last week and just call them all 'black bar studs'...sadly I know hundreds who do use this term. Ach well as we say in Parkheid 'Feck the Aw Bar Nancy'.

When they met they were stangers. Not Friends. That is the purpose of the TV Prog. She was not happy with the remarks at the time as they were not made by a Friend but by a stranger.! She has put it behind her and is getting on with the show. The PR team are trying to sort it but Brucie has reignighted it.!! Making a Racist remark does not make one a Racist but they were racist remarks just as Jade Goody's were.He has accepted this and apologised so I think the matter should be finished with now. Now where the feck are you comming from !!! Again, why can we not state our principles without all this Keech ??

There is no anger only an observation at how some people will try and play he racist card at the first chance they fet especially when they are losing an argument. I am a bit confused as to some of the postings on here today as there seems to be cross reference to other posts and pastings that don't seem to be on the board. I suspect a wee attempt at some jiggery pokery.

I am sure my wee Glesga Indian pal Raman will have a lot to say on this issue when I meet up with him on Monday at work. Racism I'll gi'e ye Racism boy...yese ain't heard nothing yet. ;D

Nor do I Anne. All references I have made are from this Thread. An example of this Jiggery Pokery please No one has called anyone else a Racist ? On the contrary I said and repeated that making a Racist remark does not make one a Racist. !! Iwould not sign a petition to have the Dancer fired. I think that is OTT. He has accepted that he made a Racist remark and apologised. That should have been the end of the matter. I reserve the right to agree with him. The argument has raged because some maintain he did not make a Racist remark or that it was OK if said in jest.

Etta, not sure if you are splitting hairs or what, but when I said that I agree with everything Andymo has said, I thought it was obvious that I was talking about the debate regarding whether or not Anton De Beke should have called the dancer a "Paki" On that subject I agree with Andymo

Charlie (when I use the quotes box thingy it never seems to work ) I don't think I am over the top PC but am certainly not offended if you think I am... more of a compliment really However I am offended by certain terms which I think would offend the recipient. If I were that easily offended then I shouldn't come onto your board, there are simply just times when I feel unable to sit back and say nowt As you always say we are free to express our opinion on here and that's what's happening, we don't all have to agree I just happen to agree with Andymo on this one...Go Andy!!!

Pity, I never knew you were over in copenhagen 20 years ago charlie I was also there , but maybe not exactly at the red light district, The Danish people charlie are racist, and the very racist of them all seem to be in the police force, and the Goverment. Not a bad place to have them. I have on at least 3 occasions had dealings with PakistaniĀ“s all of them were negative. I worked and was friends with a Indian girl , lovely lassie and turned out to be a good friend. Another people i do like are Chinese hard working ,friendly, wouldnt mind going to china for a holiday. I looked up the word Pakistan and it means PAK means CLEAN some say it means PURE. I means OF , and STAN means LAND. so do not miss out the STAN, or you will be labeled a racist.

I was only staying there in a hotel Etta along with about 8,000 other Rangers supporters and not trying out the local wares...mind you there is another story to tell about that but not on here. ;D Funny you should say that about the police. when we were on the ferry back into Germany I happened to be playing the 'puggy machine' and won a fortune just as the fans were heading below deck to get on our buses. Next thing I knew I was the only one in the deck lounge and was soon surrounded by this Danish policeman and his dog...honestly you could've thrown a saddle on this thing. What scared me though was his dress of an all black style uniform with a small forage style hat that was very reminiscent of a German Waffen SS Unit uniform from the Second World War...the only thing missing was the 'death heads' on his hat. Needless to say nothing was said between us but he gradually began to loosen the dogs leash which seemed to creep nearer and nearer me. Having no place to cash in all my winnings I just stuffed them into my pockets and headed down the stairs to the decks below...believe me it was frightening. I had those tokens in a jar for years always saying to myself I'll cash them in th next time I go back to Denmark...alas, I have never been back the thought of facing Hitler's ghost and his dog has sort of put me off going back. ;D Mind you the price of a beer didn't exactly encourage us to rush back there either. ;D
