Have you ever heard of anything so stupid. The PC Brigade have really went to town with this one and it is about time that we stood up against these so called bleeding heart liberals...calling someone from Pakistan a Paki is offensive - for feck sake what is the difference between Paki and Pakistani - does anyone know what stani means that makes it an offence to not use it it in a description of a Pakistani. ;D Offend them because you call them a Paki, I'll tell you what go into one of their shops and call them a Indian , Hindu or Sikh and you will soon see what offends them more than calling them a Paki. ;D OK folks you better not call me what you usually call me on here. I will no longer accept being called a durty ... smelly Orange , H.u.n, Honky , WASP , Jock , Masonic , Alky , Weegie , Keelie , Dour Faced , Sweaty , Mhanky , Mhinging , Bigot , Philanderer and miserable Fat bar stud - do so and I will bar you from the boards. ;D

It's offensive Hark says the voice of the easily O'Ffended. I was sitting in Wotherspoon's yesterday in Perth with two of my auld yins and the conversation somehow got around to homosexuals...how I don't know, but the subject came up anyway. It was rather busy and there were several groups of people within earshot of our conversation, mostly English. Anyway, auld Bridgette starts to go on about how she worked most of her life in Butlin's at Ayr and never knew there was such as thing as same sex relationships. She started to go on about how she walked into the kitchens one morning and there was the two Chef's 'rodgering' - she actually said 'shagging' - each other on the kitchen table - everyone around us went silent as they obviously were earie-wigging to the auld yins conversation. ;D And low and behold does auld Betty who for want aof a better description is an auld Sandyhills Toff and devout Catholic pipes up ' Whit, do you mean they were two poofs Bridie'...well I just couldn't stop laughing and did not know where to look'. The look on the faces around us was a picture as they were obviously not used to hearing homosexuals referred to as such by the elderly. I thought to myself 'brilliant' if only I had recorded it as I have no doubt the PC Brigade would've had something to say about it. Knowing Bridie she would've had something to say to them as well and it would probably be something like 'Feck aff yan erse' - I love auld east end wummen they say it as it is and don't give a monkey's about the easily O'Ffended bus and it's passengers. ;D On the other hand my wife Maureen went to our regular Indian take-away last Saturday. As she was sitting there a guy about 60'ish comes in and orders a take away and then asks for a 2 litre bottle of Irn-Bru and was charged something like £2.20. He gets his curry and goes away and then comes back in five minutes later shouting abuse at the young Indian guys who just happen to be Sikhs 'Haw ya durty shower of robbing black Paki bar studs it is only £1.60 for the same bottle of Irn Bru next door '...which just happens to be owned by a Paki. The young guys said 'no problem mate there's your money back' but this wouldn't pacify him and he still went on about 'black Paki bar studs' and 'robbing Roger Hunts'. Now that is what I would call racial abuse and I have to admit if I had been witness to it I would've said something to the guy as I find racism offensive and I just happen to like the staff in the take away. However, I do not find calling a Pakistani a Paki makes me tantamount to being a racist unless of course I add on the adjectives and other bits then I would be racist. Mind you I find anyone calling an Indian or a Sikh a Paki or Pakistani an absolute numpty and totally ignorant. In my mind to many people have a complex about being whatever religion , colour or cultural background they have...it is called guilt and inferiority thank God I am just a good old fashioned Glesga Keelie and proud of it... ;D

It's offensive I agree Caterina. I agree as well. The point being it is used in most cases in a context that is meant to be offensive

Remember the Prince Harry thing all too well and even that was a feckin farce...next we will get teutchters , weegies , chavvies , sheep-shaggers and woolley backs getting upset about their nick-names - not to even mention our West British Cousins from the Ol' Country from the land across the sea.

you know when your on holiday and someone says oh so your English and we say ,shut yer geggie pal, I'm scottish not English,we are a bit offended that they mistook us for our friends over the border ,but we don't call the cops for them being racists ,well calling a person a paki in my mind shouldn't be regarded as offensive if indeed they are from pakistan ,now if they were indian or from the lebanon etc well thats different. Its how the person is actually speaking to the other person too that should be taken into account ,when we lived in Greenfield our local shopkeeper who was born in glasgow and has dark skin often himself reffered to a certain shop in shettleston as paki ,as they were from pakistan.I personally accept when called Jock or haggis etc it's only a nick name for goodness sake .

Is this not the ultimate yet in so far as jumping on the O'Ffended bus...the world has gone feckin mad.
Offensive number plates withdrawn
Two "offensive" number plates have been withdrawn from a Worcestershire auction. The plates F4 GOT and D1 KES, which bear resemblance to the derogatory terms gay and dykes, were due to go under the hammer in Broadway. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) removed the plates on grounds of "the clear potential offence". The gay rights group Stonewall said such action by public authorities helped to make Britain "more equal". A spokesman said: "We welcome the action by the DVLA in ensuring that these potentially offensive items were withdrawn from sale." The plates were due to be among 1,600 plates auctioned later this week. Each of the private plates had a reserve price of £900. A spokesman for the DVLA said: "DVLA has responsibility to ensure that the combinations used on registration marks do not cause general upset or offence. "Having reviewed the appropriateness of the registration marks F4 GOT and D1 KES, we have withdrawn these marks from sale on the grounds of the clear potential offence they may cause."

Well the proof is in the reading even the third in line to the Throne knows they are called Pakis...and no amount of PC etiquette will ever change the British way of thought when it comes to calling Pakistanis Pakis. There was one woman reporter on this morning and she was demanding that they sack the dancer and even Bruce Forsyth for his comments. Mind you she was a westernised Pakistani so in her case it is probably a class thing 'i.e. East Meets West' scenario when the Asians turn their back on their own and want to be classified as British...and if anyone couldn't laugh at that series then it is a personality change you need. By the way have you ever sat in the company of Asians from Pakistan or India and listened to what they call each other. I am telling you they make our Proddy and Kafflik issues sound like a 'nursery school' outing...Oops sorry! I forgot the weans canny even sing Baa Baa Black Sheep there either. Whit next nae black pudding for your breakfast in case someone gets offended in the queue when you ask for it along wi' your pork chops and Halal sausages.

Me personally I just happen to like Indians and Sikhs in preference to Pakistanis but there again I am not the greatest lover of those who follow the Muslim religion...never have been and never will be.So if that makes me a bigot , a racist and sectarian numpty then so mote it be...and if you are easily offended by this staement then there are plenty of other boards who will accept your membership applications ...for a small donation.

It was no more offensive than Jade Goody referring to Shilpa Shetty as Poppadom and there were people who went to town about that, and I suspect it wasn't because of her using the term poppadom but because they didn't like Jade Goody, double standards spring tae mind. I think what the guy said, taken in the context it was said, was not racist, and I saw an interview with both of them on telly and they are friends. It all depends on the context, and if a friend called me a sweaty sock or a Jock, I would take it in the manner my friend meant it, in friendly banter, however if a total stranger began referring to Scots as Jocks in a derogatory manner within earshot, I probably would be offended, the craik and banter among friends is one thing, deliberate, veiled or open attempts at humiliation is another. By the way Charlie, ah don't think you urr bigotted, you hate aw religions except Protestant equally
