We often comment on footballers but seldom on commentators.
As we know Bob passed away yesterday and is best known for his participation in Scotsport. But he was much more than this.
He was an accomplished author, having written books on hs wartime boyhood experiences, Tommy Lipton, Jock Stein, Queen's Park and Third Lanark.
He was once the Brain of Britain, appeared as a semi-finalist on Mastermind. He was an authority on many topics including the American Civil War and Ghengis Khan.
A graduate of Glasgow University, his day job was that of teacher.
I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of years ago, when he visited the Old Glasgow Club. He was everything the pundits said of him, a true gentleman.

I never knew he died Peter. I can only say that he will be a great loss to Scottish Football in general...I corresponded with him through his column in the Evening Times and he was forever helpful when it came to Junior fitba especially in regards to Bridgeton Waverley.
