Had a few in there over the years, it was a midden, don't know if it's any good now Never been in there, looks as if it still is a bit of a midden but appearances can be deceptive and it might be a great wee place ;D

Aye Charlie, I had to retire to Toni's (Sportsman Cafe) for solace. A hot orange was the order of the day.

I've got loads of good memories of the Tavern. I was another who done a wee bit of under age drinking in there around 1972-75. It was a fair walk from there after a few pints round to the Boys gate in Janefield st, and a quick change in the date of birth.
Years later I took a mate from France in for a pint before a game. Just started our beer, and a massive battle broke out, flying beer bottles and pint tumblers. blood everywhere. Two local teams (all Celtic supporters) had bumped into each other.
Once we got outside, unharmed, he says "its a bit rough in there, is it always that bad?"

I went into the Tavern (aka Taits - rangers pub as was) about six months ago with my niece who was visiting from England. We had just been to a celtic game. Anyway I was surprised by how big it was inside - the music was belting out and she was moving her shoulders in time to the tune until I advised her the chorus was not ta ra ra but ra ra up the ra. (I still had to explain what it meant!)

Caterina...sadly it only opens when the Tic are at home and the owners are prone to playing 'the Republican card' with their choice of music. I passed by it the day of Tommy Burns's funeral and was ashamed as a Glaswegian to the bile that was being played over the music system on that day of all days - there is a time and place for a wee bit of diddly didly music sadly that day of all days wasn't one of them.
I have many happy memories of growing up and drinking in the Tavern and in fact I found some photographs today which I will go and scan just now and post them on here.

A photo taken in the London Road Tavern about 1974... Front Jimmy Fleming. Back L to R. Dougie Doig , Jimmy Quigley , Charlie McDonald , George Fleming , Stan Harkness, Stevie Nardone. Me and Stan Harkness outside the Tavern circa 1974...with the obligatory bottle of Solripe Limeade as I hated Irn Bru and still do.
