Sometimes when you are at your lowest ebb and everything seems to be against you in life...God intervenes by throwing you a wee glimmer of hope. Today I had a visit from an old friend of mine by the name of Jackie Lurinsky aka McKinight who I last saw about 1982/3 and he gave me an old tattered and taped together copy of a page from an old newspaper. For almost 40 years we have been talking about a picture that appeared in a Scottish newspaper which featured a group of weans doing their version of the Munich Olympics by using midden bins and old planks of wood in a back court facing Celtic Park. How futuristic was that when one considers that the photograph was taken on the exact site where the Commonwealth Games 2014 will take place. ;D The four main characters are there in the photo plus their admiring audience of weans and other wee Parkheidians who are all now in their late fifties. This photo may turn out to be as famous as the Gorbals Boys...watch this space for further developments. Praise Be To Jehovah...

It may not look much but this could be the face of the Commonwealth Games 2014 once the newspaper group redo the original. This photo was taken in Buddon Street in 1972 and is directly where the new entrance to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is located now.

Charlie dont know if this is the right thread to put this post on... Drove along London road today and when I stopped at the lights I was surprised (not unexpected) to see the demolition of the East Kilbride dairy, Strathclyde cafe, chip shop/chinese etc.... Brought back a lot of old memories

I noticed they had been bulldozed yesterday Billy...many a laugh we had in and around those shops when we were younger. Remember wee Archie the Chink and the night we snowballed his gaff and guess who got caught in the shop when the doors got slammed shut?

Aye remember it well - think we ended up running up and down Springy road from Phead cross to the wee park chasing people with giant snowballs! I also have the memory of wee Archie when he went into the Clanny nearly every day and offered fags to everybody ;D

This is the kind of photograph that one dreams about capturing through the lens...to think that Tower Bridge was built by Sir William Arrol at his Dalmarnock Works where the 2014 Commonwealth Games will take place is unbelievable...

I have been working on stuff for the history board and I cannot help but admire the work and business brain of Sir William Arrol...a real Captain of Industry. If only we had guys of the same outlook in the east end today.
