Some time ago I mention that I was starting up a new East End Charity which would donate money to good causes in the east end on an annual basis. The Trust Fund will be known as the Waverley Trust in memory of the Bridgeton Waverley Amateur Football Club of which I was the founder and Chairman of for 25 years. The money to finance the Trust Fund is raised by myself and former members of the Bridgeton Wavelrley Amateurs Football Club.
The maximum available at present is £500 per annum of which no one group can be awarded any more than £100 and is payable to the groups awarded a donation at the Glesga Fair each year.
This year, our first year , the Trustees have decided to pay a donation to ten worthy causes which will all receive £50 towards their funds. I am happy to report that three groups connected with the Glesga Keelies board have been selected as a worthy cause. They are as follows G.E.I.S.H.A., Riverside Schools Out 2014 Project and the Glesga Keelies pro-board site. Amongst the other groups which will benefit from the Waverley Trust are as follows three east end elderly projects, a local chapel , a local church , an Under 12's football team from Bridgeton , plus an elderly transport scheme. So we have covered a wide spectrum of community groups in the east end in our first year and it is hoped to increase the funds available for distribution next year.

It has always been Keelies policy to raise our own funds i.e. through the efforts of the committee. That way we do not have the burden of depending on members donations and therefore we are not obliged to keep pests on the boards just because they have donated money to the running costs of the board. Besides Lynn our running costs only work out about a couple of hundred pounds per year max and even that is high because we subscribe to SCRAN and a couple of other boards of historic interest. Our motto is 'People Before Profit...as Glesga Keelies Do It Better.

What a carry on trying to give money away...seems that cheques are being phased out and we will have to send banker's orders. Problem being one or two of the groups don't have bank accounts so we will have to make a direct cash donation which does not allow us to get maximum publicity for the Trust as we had planned to list all recipients in the Daily Record Kind Hearts page...which means we send the cheques/banker's orders to them to send out to the recipients.

If you cast your mind back a few months I mentioned the fact that the boys of my old fitba team had decided to form an east end charity in the name of our former clun, Bridgeton Waverley. I am glad to say that we have donated the sum of £50 to ten organisations which operate in the east end...we even got a wee mention in the Evening Times the other night which we appreciated.
