Contrary to popular belief cricket grounds in Glasgow aren't as scarce as people would have us believe. Cricket was first recorded as being played on Glasgow Green in 1826. By 1841 the War Office had decreed that every British Army garrison should have a cricket ground for recreation purposes. With the influx of English workers due to the rise of cotton factories and mills it is reckoned that by 1873 there were around 200 cricket clubs north of the border.

I seem to remember seeing a cricket match actually in Tollcross Park, probably in the 50s sometime. Anybody else remember the game being held there?
