Glasgow Eastern Standard Saturday 23rd March 1935. West-thorn Sport. The East End appears to have become 'health=conscious" to an acute degree lately, and this has been reflected in the Corporation making extensive plans to meet the desire for better recreational facilities. The most ambitious project for a healthy weekend is a sports ground, costing approximately £6.500 to be laid out at West-thorn at Parkhead. Work on this commences on Monday and Councillor J.Taylor (Parkhead) informs us that it is hoped that by August at least two hockey pitches will be ready for play. By the following season there will be within the ground at West-thorn, the hockey pitches, two bowling greens, and a cinder running and cycling tracks. There is also to be one of the most up to date pavilions in the country. The works for this is to be carried out by the Parks Department. Near West-thorn the Department is also to construct a children's playground at Newbank. Miss Anne Stewart formerly of Malcolm Street in West-thorn Park circa 1950.
