'One Camlachie, there's only one Camlachie....' or so the song might go, but not the case.
There exists in Ontario Province in Canada a village called Camlachie. It presently boasts a population of around 420, a post office, library, volunteer fire brigade, playing park and is well known inn the local area for its flea markets.
A few years ago I sent a copy of 'Camlachie - The Forgotten Village' to the library there and received back a nice letter, telling me the book had created much conversation, and provided a connection for the Canadian Camlachie, where there was none before.
It might be fair to assume that some lost soul, originating from 'the muddy bend on the burn', left Auld Scotia and pitched his/her tent in Ontario and called it Camlachie, to be near home spiritually, if not physically.
Don't know if the Canadian version has a Gallowgate yet.
