AT MOTHER’S GRAVE
We visit oft the grave, mother. Where thy body lies at rest; We think too of thy soul, mother, Which has gone to that land so blest.
The place where thy body lies , mother, Is draped in lovely green; But Heaven, where thy soul is gone, mother, Is much fairer to be seen.
We miss thee oft and much , mother, For our joys and sorrows were thine; But we would not wish you back, mother, From the land of eternal shine.
Although we all miss you much, mother, Our father misses you most; Yes I hope he will rejoice, mother, That thy gain comes from his loss.
I am sure we no longer mourn, mother, Though God on us grief did lay; For we’ve peace the world can’t give, mother, Nor yet can take away.
We must try to live by faith, mother, On the joys thine eyes have seen; For we know the Saviour died, mother, To cleanse us from all our sin.
We will gladly wait our time, mother, Until our work is done; And we’ll meet thee beyond the grave, mother, To bask in the eternal sun. Bridgeton Advertiser 1891.

Charlie you'll never know what that has just done for me. THANKYOU Adaline Adaline I hope it brought you some comfort. I came across it in a newspaper in the Mitchell Library at the weekend and thought 'that is quite poignant'...

Thanks for posting that nice wee poem Charlie and from a 'Keelie' paper at the time. Was there any note of who wrote it Charlie?
