Sold by the Minister, surely not.
What was his reason for doing so ?

Adaline as you are about the same age give or take a couple of years as me you would've been christened in that very font as it was presented to the church in the 1880's and was in use until the church was demolished and removed to Calton Parkhead Parish in the early 1970's by a relative of mine named Tom Watt who was a mason and monumental sculptor. Yes Peter I was really angry when I learned that the minister of the Calton Parkhead Church hasd sold part of the east end's history to some rag and bone man advertising in the Evening Times...when I asked who he sold it to he said he couldn't remember - aye a feckin likely story. I was christened in that font and so was my mother and her two brothers plus other members of our family who were all members of the church since it opened until it closed. I am sure I have a photo of the inscription on the side of the font I'll post it whenever I find it.

Thanks for that info Charlie on the font both my sisters were christened in the church also so the font would have been used for them, don't know if my father was christened there and with him not with us anymore and the only one brother left it is hard to find out much info on the family. Look forward to seeing the photo of the inscription when you have time.
I think it was this church that my dad belonged to when he was in the BBs' back in the mid 1930s'
