I have attended their last few meetings in Glasgow and I can honestly say that despite being very much a quasi-Orange organisation their leaflets and publications and in particular their magazine depicting the history of the Covenanters has been amongst some of the best I have read in almost 30 years of an interest in the Covenanters Cause and struggle for Religious and Civil Liberties and Freedom. I have about a half dozen of their Covenanters wall charts if anyone wants one send me your address...a period of Scots history that should be taught to all Scots schoolkids irrespective of their religion or family background - a 50 years struggle against tyranny that eventually made us the Nation and people we are today.

The Gorbals Boy - In the footsteps of Sir Thomas Lipton Sponsored walk in aid of the Glasgow Ulster-Scots Society Glasgow - Sunday 21st June 2009 Sir Thomas Lipton was born in Glasgow of Ulster parents and went from cabin boy to multi-millionaire and international celebrity but he never forgot his roots. His four yachts - all named Shamrock in memory of his family from counties Fermanagh and Monaghan - challenged the USA in the Americas Cup and his name became a byword for sportsmanship. Before the first Football World Cup was held in 1930, he donated the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy which was contested in two international tournaments in Turin in 1909 and 1911. He bequeathed the majority of his fortune to the city of Glasgow, including his yachting trophies, which are now held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The Glasgow Ulster-Scots Society is organising a sponsored walk to raise funds for it's work and in Sir Thomas' memory. The Glasgow route is six miles long. The Glasgow Ulster-Scots Society is a registered charity devoted to explaining and promoting the unique story of the connections between Scotland and Ulster. Activities include placing Ulster-Scots history books in every Glasgow schools to alleviate ignorance. THE GLASGOW SPONSORED WALK Staring Point - Lodge Scotia, Whitehill Street, Dennistoun, 10am for rolls and tea, 11am start. The walk in Glasgow will be roughly six miles long. American Presidents Did you know that 16 of the 41 American Presidents were Ulster-Scots or had Ulster-Scots ancestry? They are: Andrew Jackson, James Knox Polk, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnston, Ulysses S.Grant, Chester Alan Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Harry Truman, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, George Bush and Bill Clinton! George W Bush has become the 17th American President with Ulster-Scots connections. William Jefferson Clinton is a relative of Lucas Cassidy, of Ulster Presbyterian stock, who left Co. Fermanagh for America around 1750.
And George W Bush can trace his ancestral roots back to the 18th century Scots-Irish diaspora form Ulster. Mr Bush's ancestor on his mother's side, William Gault, was a first citizen of Tennessee in 1796 and is believed to have been born somewhere in Co. Antrim.

In the early 70's I had an Agency with a Life Assurance Company called
" The Ulster Scottish " , no kiddin .!. They had an office in St. Vincent Street.
Their company logo was a Red Hand and I was always getting asked for Ties.
Their Chairman was " The Lord O'Neill "
I used to fly to Belfast for Meetings which was a a scary place then . Stayed in The Europa Hotel which was the most bombed Hotel in Europe.

Andy that hotel was bombed so many times during 'The Troubles' they used to give out special ties as a souvenir if you stayed in it for a couple of days.
