I went to the 67th BB Company which was attached to the church, and had its Friday night meetings in Newlands School on Springfield Road, with Bible Class at the church on Helenvale Street on a Sunday, with a church parade on the first Sunday of the month. As I remember it the Captain was Gordon Blair, and his lieutenants were Ian Galloway (who took the football team ) Mr. Crockard (who did all the first aid kinda stuff) and two other Blair brothers, Ian and Cameron. On summer nights, we would go for football training down to West-thorn Park, and it was great, as it was a big, grass pitch, unlike the red blaes we played on every Saturday. I remember we got a photo taken with our new strips in the church hall. Yellow tops, blue shorts and yellow socks (the Chelsea away kit). Wonder what happened to that snap ?? anybody got one ?? Names I remember include Walter McFadgen, Davie Johnstone, Ian Hyde, John Holland, Ian Palmer, John Pulling, Ian Pulling, Brian Tennant. Can anybody add to this early 1970's recollection ?? posted by Peter Mortimer elsewhere by mistake

Believe it or believe it not Peter I have Big Walter McFadyen's BB Pill box hat and his wee blue ribbon shoulder tabs with the 67th badges in my collection...given to me by his mother who attends my centre. I knew them al whom you mentionedl and have regular contact with Ian Hyde who comes up from Ipswich every so often and normally goes to see Jamie Barnes and his wife who is ex-Riverside lassie Vicki Naismith.

These perfume cards were sold as a means of raising funds for the Mission hut which was the forerunner of the Calton Parkhead Church in Helenvale Street which was affectionally known as the 'wee Tinny' and stood on the opposite side of the road from the present church roughly where the Corporation weighbridge was situated which is now Rab Haw's the fast food outlet.

I was married in Helenvale Church in 1969 by the Reverend Grimstone. i also took the Shipmates in the early 1970's. Neil was a member of the BB and so was his brother Gordon. Mother-in-law was a member of this church till she took ill and is now in a private nursing home in Cumbernauld beside us.
