The ultimate example of 'The Beautiful Game' must surely be this one. The whole of the 1970 World Cup tournament blew me away.
Before the tournament the press were making noises about Pele being over the hill and a spent force, but what we saw from Brazil when it started was the finest tournament exhibition of football by any side, ever.
The Brazil team was literally a team of stars, with guys like Rivelino, Tostao, Gerson, Claudoaldo, Jairzhino and of course the master Pele.
I would never miss the excellent covarage on TV, where we saw Brian Moore host the studio panel, Big Derek Dougan, Pat Crerand, Malcolm Allison etc., they were all terrific.
The whole event was peppered with great memories ;
Pele trying to lob the Czech goalie from his own half Beckenbaur playing in the semis with his arm in a sling Gordon banks' save from Pele Gerd Muller scoring against England
But most of all, every one of the Brazilian goals.
You know, I really laugh nowadays when I read newspaper reports about this one or that one being 'world class'. They don't know the meaning of the word.
Brazil, 1970, now that was 'World Class'
