Julius Green had his dental surgery, entered by the close at number 9 Tollcross Road. He was Jewish, and had a remarkable time during WW2. He was held captive at Colditz Castle, and wrote coded messages in letters to his wife, providing the British intelligence services with vital information. Given his Jewish upbringing, it is truly incredible the Germans never discovered this, or he would surely have perished.
He wrote a book recalling his army career called 'From Colditz in Code'
I remember having treatment at his practice from a Mr. Wilson, who was the most gentle dentist I've ever encountered. He was I think ex RAF and a real gentleman.

He also sent coded messages back to Britain through the medical records of the soldiers he was carrying out dental treatment on. For example he would report about someone needing canal treatment which would alert the authorities back home that there was a lot of German Navy activity on the Keil Canal etc., I remember him as a child but his son Alan was my dentist in the 1980's and 1990's.

One mans butcher is another man's (wumans) Florence Nightingale. In this mans view, from personal experience, he was a butcher, and every time a put ma tongue tay the back of ma mouth a feel the gap where ma missing teeth should be it reminds me that this guy ruined ma good looks and stopped me from becoming a film star or should it be ;D

He was my dentist too. My hair was long and he used to tie it roud the head of the chair so I could not move. Remember he wore a ben casey shirt and loads of times it had blood on it. Can still remember the smell

Never used the guy, but wan o ma sisters did fur years. Don't know whether it wis the auld Green or the young wan, but, for some reason, he gave her a copy of a genealogical table showin the descent o the Irish frae the Ten Lost Tribes Of Israel.

I have never forgotten Greens the dentist, the rubber mask with the gas, when I was about seven I had two teeth pulled I ended up in Duke Street Hospital, the doctor had to stitch my gum. When I got up the morning after being to the dentist my pillow was soaked with blood, it took me a long time to go back to a dentist, I think that was about twenty odd years and that was to the Dental Hospital in Glasgow. I don't have a problem with dentist today, I go every six month. PADDYBOY
Just new to the site take me awhile to find my way around
