Pitbull, did you not get Travel passes for going to school. Ten journey cardboard ticket, which if you were lucky the teachers wouldn't bother date stamping. I used to get 2 a week, but got by with 1, so i had a steady stream to give away, only to the lassies, or sell to boys. Mind you a few lassies got found out travelling with passes stamped St. Mungo's. Still a boys school then.

I remember the school giving us the tokens when we had to go from Whitehill School up to Craigend when we had to play hockey against another school team.No teacher went with us ,it was usually after lunch you were just told to be up at Craigend for a certain time,I think it was the number 46 from Duke street. Usualy there was a team from cranhill there to try and do us in,we would chase after them with our hockey sticks, apologies if your fae Cranhill and you were the wan I lamped across the heed lol

I had forgotten all about these tokens, I remember yellow ones in particular, although I can't remember why we had them in our house because I had a school travel pass (wee pink ticket) with 4 journeys allowed per day, Monday - Friday which the tram/bus conductor stamped. I think maybe my dad was issued with the plastic tokens during the time he was a postman, he delivered in Ladywell so used the bus to get there from George Square with his sackful of letters.

My father worked for Glasgow Corporation and I think he used to get part of his wages in tokens, in the days when wages were paid weekly (very weakly!) in cash in a pay envelope.
I have some that I got on ebay and I also recently managed to get some 'Last Tram' memorabilia, including a couple of tickets.
Technically, the last tram actually ran two days after the official parade, being taken from Clydebank to Dalmarnock.
The people of Clydebank, still an independent burgh in 1962, felt excluded from the official farewell and so a tram was provided to take some dignitaries to Clydebank Town Hall for a parade and a reception. The tram then headed for Glasgow.
Alan Fitzpayne, son of the General Manager of Glasgow Corporation Transport, then a 13 year-old schoolboy, was on board, and he later said that he had been allowed to take the controls for a short time, unbeknown to the officials on board.
Alan Fitzpayne died in 2006.

I have been going through some Glasgow transport related photos ect and found this pic of tram tokens, don't know much about them myself, just a wee bit before my time. I am sure they are familiar to many on here.

Hate to admit I remember the tokens. I used to get the tram in the bad weather from the State up to Gartocher Road when St Pauls was in Shettleston

We got them, occasionally, to go to Craigend for our occasional footie practice. ( or whatever ) The changing rooms were in a big old house, part of some earlier estate, no doubt. Davie.
