Baron Newlands
Baron Newlands, of Newlands and Barrowfield in the County of the City of Glasgow and of Mauldslie Castle in the County of Lanark, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 19 January 1898 for the soldier Sir William Hozier, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a Baronet in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom in 1890.

Sir William Wallace Hozier, 1st Baron Newlands was born on 24 February 1825 He was the son of James Hozier and Catherine Margaret Feilden. He married Frances Anne O'Hara, daughter of John O'Hara and Arabella Blake, in August 1849. He died on 30 January 1906 at age 80
Sir William Wallace Hozier, 1st Baron Newlands gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Scots Greys. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Lanarkshire Regiment. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 4th Battalion, Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the auxiliary forces. He was created 1st Baronet Hozier on 12 June 1890.2 He was created 1st Baron Newlands, of Newlands, and Barrowfield, in the county of the city of Glasgow, and of Mauldslie Castle, Lanark on 19 January 1898. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow. He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glasgow. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Argyllshire.
He was succeeded by his only son, James Henry Cecil Hozier, the second Baron,
James Henry Cecil Hozier, the second Baron, was born 4th April, 1851, and was educated at Eton and at Balliol College, Oxford.
In 1874 he gained, by competitive examination, an appointment in the Foreign Office, and two years later went as diplomatic secretary with the late Marquis of Salisbury on his mission to the conference of Constantinople. He was private secretary to Lord Salisbury when Foreign Secretary, from 1878 to 1880, and again from 1885 to 1886 when Prime Minister from 1885-1886
In 1880 he married Lady Mary Cecil, daughter of the Marquess of Exeter, head of the elder branch of the Cecil family. He was member for South Lanarkshire for 20 years, from 1886 until 1906, when he succeeded to the peerage. He is an enthusiastic Free Mason, and was Grand Master Mason of Scotland from 1899 to 1903. He is an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford; Honorary President of the Junior Conservative Club, Glasgow; a Public Works Loan Commissioner, and the Vice-Lieutenant, and the President of the Territorial Force Association, of Lanarkshire. His Lordship was made a Deputy-Lieutenant for the County of the City in 1908 and was Brigadier of the Royal Company of Archers from 1910. He received the Freedom of the City of Glasgow in 1917. Lord Newlands was childless and the titles became extinct on his death on 5 September 1929.
Sir Henry Montague Hozier (1838-1907), younger brother of the first Baron, was a Colonel in the 3rd Dragoons and the father of Clementine Churchill, wife of Winston Churchill (although Clementine's paternity has been the subject of some debate).
