Read recently that Edward G Robinson attended a meeting at the Olympia Picture House in October 1942. The meeting was held in order to gain support for the opening of cinemas on a Sunday to entertain American troops based in Scotland during World War II. After the meeting he attended a similar meeting in a Paisley cinema where he was presented with a Paisley pattern shawl from a very appreciative cinema audience. I wonder if he was aware that he was an inspiration for thousands of wanna-be east end gangsters. ;D
