I have just spent a fantastic three days in Belfast. I haven't enjoyed myself so much in years and could not believe how friendly everyone was especially the residents of the Sandy Row. it was my first ever time staying in the city but it will not be my last.

Great you had such a good time Charlie, you are looking good. My Step grannie was from Whiteabbey and my Grandpa worked in the shipyards there. What a mix I come from. Great Kaffliks from Tipperary and Galway Bay, a step gran who played the fiddle in the Orange walks and now a favourite cuz from Bundorran. My Grandpa and Gran eloped to Glasgow to get married and that is how I am a Weegie, Not quite aff topic ah hope

Pity I did not get to meet you Charley until I was about to head back home. Staying in the same bloody hotel and we did not know it. ;D ;D As you say, a fantastic couple of days. This time I went, not to participate, but to "observe" and the weather was great on the day.

I think we should be seriously looking at doing a similair style march in Glasgow in the year 2014 to commemorate 'The Men Who Marched Away'. You can be the recruiting serjeant Ronnie and I can be Jimmy Dalrymple of the Glasgow Tramways Department ... I will need to not shave from now until then in order to grow a beard in time for September 2014.

Charley, I would happily take up the mantle of recruiting "Sergeant" for 2014, as that is an "Honourable" rank with which to serve (as I did), which is more can be said for some of the 'Bearers of the Mace' "Serjeants (-at-Arms)" who have polluted the corridors of Westminster looking to 'serve' none but themselves, and disgracing themselves AND the appointment in the process. ;D :)Glad I got that off my chest I think you would be the perfect person to portray Jimmy Dalrymple (with or without the beard) and I would gladly set up a wee Pipe bawn and march you through the East End to the strains of that excellent Reel, "Kate Dalrymple" which my former Regiment often played with gusto while recruiting throughout Glasgow and Ayrshire (with me of course leading the Bawn) ;D ;D Perhaps a more 'fitting tune' for you would be "McDonald's awa' tae the wars", seeing as that was the pipe tune we played when our C ( Charlie) Company was on parade. I just can't resist this one Charley. As you would be leading your 'Tramcaur' battalion, wouldn't it be great to march them past Celtic Park, just to let their supporters see for themselves, the ORIGINAL "Green Brigade" (15th ((Tramways) battalion, the Highland Light Infantry) and what they gave for this great city of ours? Ronnie (tongue firmly in cheek)
