Runs from 995 London Road to 1020 Gallowgate.
At number 100 stood a chocolate factory, dating from 1899 and built for the Sweetmeat Automatic Delivery Company. They may have made chocolate bars for early vending machines located in cinemas, railway stations etc. It later became the premises of Reeves Ltd., chocolate manufacturers. It then became the Sunblest Bakery. The works were badly damaged by fire on 22nd February 1967, and eventually demolished in 1994.
The street was used in the late 1960's and beyond by supporters buses attending nearby Celtic Park. The whole street would be gridlocked on Saturay afternoons and the old open back double deckers were a great place to play. I remember letting off the hanbrake on one, and just about crapped ma'sel when it rolled forward. Got off my mark sharpish.

Part of Stamford Street, along with Janefield Street, formed what was Porter Street. At number 50 (roughly on the site of the present day Dalserf Street) stood the Nelson Recreation Ground. It was owned by a local horse dealer called William Nelson, and it was used as a flapping track and occasional boxing venue. In 1935 it was renamed the Olympic Sports Stadium (sounds very grand), and was demolished a few years later, presumably to make way for the Barrowfield housing scheme.

Billy Rafferty 'Ex Scrapper still Scrapping' had his wee scrap yard there. In the late 60's / early 70's a fish and chip shop was opened just at the tunnel into Janefield Street. Nearer Gallowgate of course was John Flannigans shop which has been covered elsewhere on the board.

Frank jacksons garage bacame the chippy (conetti's) frank moved to a garage at the bottom of springy rd. jocky henry had a scrapyard midway between franks and rafferty's. the first arch as you came round from janefield st was owned by a wee wumman called lizzie, she packed lime into boxes , i don't know who for, we used to go in and help her when we dogged school, the door was kept closed so the schoolboard couldn't get in.
