Peter it was a handout called 'To Supply All Nations ...an exhibtion of the industries which made the east end. A ggod source for reference as it tells your where to look up photos and items re the industries that are no longer in existence. I will bring a copy next Friday when we meet up in O'Neil's at lunch-time.

Just a wee mention about Cardowan creameries. It was my first job when i left school. It lasted just over a year before i moved on to Woolworths in Argyle St. Looking back now i can still see the team... There was Alex the foreman... Rose Owens... And another apprentice called Davie. I have many wonderful stories about my time there, but eventually i got my books because i was breaking too many thermometers, and allowing the Glucose to run all over the floor. I evenyually ended up in the post office at Duke Street Denniston as a motor cycle telegramme boy.

I remember recently Cardowan Creameries were in the bad books wi' the polis', when a tanker en route to Holywell Street began leaking its load of some sort of cooking oil - the result - cars, buses and lorries skidding all over the place, up the M74 and through the east end.
The sort of little story that really adds to local folklore.
I love it.

Just discovered in my bookcase a wee book I had forgotten about called 'Note it in a Book'.
It's about the history of Begg, Cousland & Company Ltd., based at the Springfield Wireworks, Springfield Road.
A few years ago I wrote to them asking about their history, and got a nice letter back, with the book enclosed from Mr. Kevin Begg.
