Thistle & The Poppy Society was the brainchild of Charlie McDonald and Frank O'Donnell after their 'walk to the Somme' in July 1990.

Waverley, as you know I am looking forward to this type of thing as discussed recently, as are several other mates, unfortunately we are busy up in Inverness that day and won’t be able to make it,,,, sods law, anyway any other events please let me know. PS Can you contact me regards to some urgent HLI information requirements. Cheers mate, McLeod I am currently working on an invite to a speaker from Ulster to give a talk on the 36th (Ulster) Division hopefully in a venue in the east end which could cater for the expected numbers Alexander...if you have any thoughts on this proposal then please let me know.

Watched it yesterday and have to say it was excellent. Got a wee bit excited when they were talking at the 51st Highland Division Memorial at Beaumont Hamel and they started talking about the 16th and 17th Highland Light Infantry on the First of July. I was expecting them to go to the HLI Memorial plaque at Authuille but they didn't...never mind at least the 'boys' got a mention. Just puts me in the mood to get back out there as soon as possible...
