Quarry Braes .
Tune:- My Bonnie Jeannie Shaw.
I was born doon in Parkheid,
There the light I first saw.
It's got some gey queer places,
Wi' funny names an a'.
There's Backcausey and Punpbriggs,
Stein's Coort and Shinty Ha'.
The Cat's Close the Coffin Close.
The village and the Ravel Raw.
Chorus:-
Then gie me back the days,
When doon at the burn we played.
Or else we'd go for a ramble,
Ow'er tae Quarry Braes.
We wid row about the Braes there,Tearin' a' oor claes.
The go hame when banes were sair,
Tae oor ain place in Westmuir.
The stairs a t the Sheddens ye'll hae mind,
Sebastopool and Caroline.
The Pancake and Sprinfield Toll,
The Bumbee and the Dug Hole.
The Exile and the Racing Park,
Clug Brig , Martin and Coach Road,
Murray's Open and Elba Lane,
The Plough and the Slidey Stane.
We used to hae some rare fun,
Doon at the Bane Work Burn.
Trying tae cross the Dookies,
And mebbe tumble in.
Then we'd go and jump the High Dykes,
Or tae see them play the Bools.
And help tae tak' Baird's Auld Horse,
Through the Wee Pend Close.
They hae ta'in awa' the Auld Black Bull,
The Quarry and the Horse's Trough.
The Auld Jile and the Auld Schule Pit,
Whit gied us mony a thocht.
The Reekie Linn and The Auld Straw Hoose,
The Scabbie and the Wandered Loan.
The Fountain , Coal Ree and Balloon,
Were names o' oor auld toon.
