They came , they saw , they controlled...why did the English allow the Scots to control and literally run the British Empire. Were the Scots 'the janitors of the Empire' or were they a race of people who were hoodwinked into believing they were the equal of their nearest and biggest neighbours ...the manipulating English.

I have spent most of the day in the Kelvin Grove Art Gallery with some of our 'auld yins' and came across this wee comment in the Conflict and Cosequence Gallery in regards to the Scots.
'I have long been amused by the romantic idea and misplaced sense of modern Scottish Nationalism. It comes as no surprise to me that the Scottish Officers were in the vanguard of putting down the Rebellion. Given the sheer number of Scots in power at the dizzy heights of the Empire, no wonder Indian historians often refer to the British Empire as really the Scottish Empire. Scots as an oppressed nation.
