The Parkhead Rebels were drawn mostly from the Springfield Road and London Road junction known locally as 'the Lights'. I often wondered how they acquired their name and was always under the belief it was something to do with the close proximity of the area to Celtic Park. I could not be any further away from the truth...in actual fact they were named by a local youth who was a real tearaway in his day and was later to do time for various Loyalist para-military activities in Scotland.

My ma lived in springfield road next to the wire works and she said there was a gang leader called Lofty London, he was a black guy, it was either the "Sticket" or the Rebels (1940s).

The Londons were a local family and yes Lundie they were black...one of them used to come up to my granny's house in Arrol Place as he was a pal of my uncle Archie's.
