I took a wee stroll up to the Mitchell yesterday and spent a most enjoyable five hours going through the microfiche copies of the Glasgow Eastern Standard. It never ceases to amaze me some of the stories that are in it and the thing is I know quite a few of the people involved in the stories even though the Standard ceased to exist circa 1962. One old well known Parkheid character who only died a few years ago was forever being jailed for violent crimes and after he was found wandering around Carlton Place was also jailed for being a known thief . I also came across a report of one of my auld yins in the day centre husband being involved in a fight in Heron Street in 1935 where he was arrested for attacking a polis with a bayonet. I cannot wait to ask her on Tuesday what sentence he got.
