You are right Peter when it was the BBC Studios numerous White Heather Club shows were filmed there...it was known in BBC circles as 'Springers'. I used to have an article from the Scotsman which told the story but I lost it many years ago.

I met Vera Lynn at the BBC studios when i was 15, I worked at a wee drapers shop at the top of Springfield Rd called Browns and I had to deliver nylon stockings to her personally.

didn,t they do the 1o,clock gang at the black cat??? You are getting mixed up with the White Heather Club Patrick...they used to film most of it in the Black Cat when it was the BBC Studios aka 'Springers'. Somewhere in the house I have an article from the Scots Magazine dealing with the story of the use of the Black Cat by BBC as a recording studio.

Ive mentioned on the site elsewhere that I remember being outside the night it was officially opened as a BBC studio when many "stars" had turned up to celebrate. I got George Young's and Lita Roza's autograph. I thought it must have been 53 or 54 at the latest. Although here it says it closed later in 1955

I remember Gerry and saw him a few times in the Old Shipbank and other places. Last time I saw him he was working in the kitchens at the Mitchell Library but that was a good few years back. The Black Cat building is no longer in use after the film and theatre people moved out it became a cardboard box manufacturers but has been closed for about five years now and the premises was recently set on fire causing severe damage to the offices and reception area.
