Scots were amongst the first settlers to New Zealand once it was opened up to British migrants. It was a haven for Free Church of Scotland ministers including a nephew of Rabbie Burns , who was a zealous minister and very pro-Temperance.
When the Rev.James Begg of Edinburgh came on a tour in 1874, he remarked that he 'never addressed more thoroughly Scottish congregations, I think , than in New Zealand ... I saw a great many people with what I would call Bothwell Brig faces - real true-blue, staunch, sterling Presbyterians'.

Charlie mentioned that I should maybe post my New Zealand photo's in here. But rather than taking up a lot of space on the board, I thought it may be better just to provide a link to the photo thread. For anybody who is interested, I have posted a bunch of photo's of Mount Cook and Milford Sound from our recent trip to the South Island of New Zealand. So if you want to see them, just click on the link below: glesgakeelie.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=snapshot&action=display&thread=2324&page=1Regards, Brian.
