Ah don't know that you can "put a copyright" on auld postcards, just by displaying them oan a website, Patrick. If the copyright on the orginal has expired, then they're in the public domain, no matter who owns them. Mebbe the act of converting them tae a digital form can be copyrighted, but ah wid doot it. Hivin said that, copyright, is a very complicated matter. I think you will find that postcards are in the public domain so you can print away...however, photographs are a different ball game as it is the photographer who took the original photo who is the accredited artist and he owns the right to copyright. For example Michaelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling so he was the artist so technically he owns the copyright and not the Pope even though he supplied the paints, the brushes, the scaffold and the ladders...Michaelangelo was the original artist and therefore owns the copyright, like wise with a photograph. ;D
