Did any of you watch this programme last night. I could not help but feel sorry for Gascoigne ...agreed he is a victim of his own demise but unlike the rest of those wayward genuises that football throws up like Best , Baxter , Greaves and the legendary Hughie Gallagher who all suffered from the curse of alcoholism I got the distinct feeling that Gazza suffers more of a mental and physcological problem than an alcoholic affliction. I honestly fear for his life in his current mental state...so sad really when one considers the talent he once had and the joy he brought to millions. Everytime I see that goal he scored against us Jocks at Wembley I don't know whether to greet or applaud the English barstud. I wish you well Gazza...

No one deserves what he has become. God help the poor soul.

I watched this last night and felt really sorry for his family, especially his stepson Mason, who really wanted to help him. It was really sad to hear his own son Regan say that he wished he would just stay away. Like you Charlie I felt his troubles were more mental and physcological than anything else, but of course the drinking doesnt help. I really hope he overcomes this problem, as I wouldnt like to see him go down the same road as George Best.

I did not see it Charlie but have read the reviews and have followed his career and life. I think he was the best Player ever to play for Rangers and I seen Jim Baxter. He was my Hero. When sober he was a lovely fun loving guy but when drunk he changed completely. I have a zero tolerance to violence to women and never forgave him for the viscious assault on his Wife. I think his problems go beyond drink and his demons are as real to him as reality is to us. He is a poor tortured soul and with compassion and charity I think he has suffered enough to atone for his past actions. He has my sympathy . No one is beyond redemption but I fear his only release is by death and perhaps this is his realisation and wish. It is not my place to forgive him but I no longer bear him any malice . I simply feel so sorry for him and I wish him well and I wish him peace of mind. I feel so sorry for him , his Family and all who love him.

Like yourself Andy I have literally been reduced to tears watching this guy in a Rangers jersey...likewise I saw Baxter as a child and watched in amazement at what Laudrupp and Larsson could do with a ball but I can honestly say there was never anything to compare before and since with a Paul Gascoigne in full flight...and he was no a bad flute player as well.

After seeing this thread I managed to download some clips from the programme, its a very sad story and he was one of the greatest fitba players I've ever seen and best ever to wear a Rangers jersey, many people have tried to help him fight his demons but sadly I feel he is now beyond helping,I just hope his future can be less tortuous for his family and close friends.

I found it strange that there was no input from his Mum , Dad and sister...and his youngest son came across as a wee spoilt pompous brat who was oblivious to his father's state of mind or what his mother , sister and older brother were trying to achieve in regards to trying to help Gacoigne.

I too Charlie thought that his Mum, Dad and sister should have been on the program to hear what and how they are coping. My heart went out to his stepson Mason, it was very obvious that he adored Gazza and still does. I loved him tae bits when he played for the Gers It is very sad indeed what has become of him i can't help but have pity on him and his family and i do think that his life will soon be at an end, then maybe his poor family will be able to get on with their lives. It really is a shame.

I agree with what you say Mary, but what amazes me is why did his wife marry him when he had been abusing her before the marriage. When will women realise that these type of men never change.

Only person that can help gazza is gazza. I disagree Alex as I honestly believe he is too far gone now to help himself...sadly I think it is only a matter of time before we read of his suicide.

Sadly I have to agree with you Charlie. If not suicide then his body will just shut down.

I waatched the programme and felt sorry for everyone involved. I disagree with your comments Charlie about his son - the boy is only 12 years old and all he can see is his dad is an embarrassment whom he thinks doesn't care about him. My heart went out to him. Mason came across as a caring young man who desperately wants to have Gazza in his life, but I'm afraid he is almost beyond help now. People have tried and he has tried himself but he's in the grip of a horrible addiction. Still, where there's life I suppose there's hope.
