From 1603, with the Union of the Crowns, the Scots began to colonise Ulster with the introduction of their reformed religion and Scots speech, which would define itself against indigenous culture and maintain this identity whatever befell , right to the present day.
With the introduction of the Act of the Union of 1801 of England , Scotland and Ireland it can said that the Scots of Ulster would claim more of a loyalty to the Britain rather than their close emotional, cultural ties and imperial relationship with their mother country, Scotland.
