Flim the memorial stone you talk about that used to be as the top of Castle Street was removed and placed on a site at the underpass which was next to the now removed Royston Library. It was moved from there to the nearby Parish Church in the high rise flats complex in Dobbies Loan where it was when I photographed it last about two years ago...I have read since then that the church is to be completely rebuilt and the stone will be inserted in the new building.
I don't know of the one on the Kirky Road but I will make enquiries for you.

Hi Charlie Thanks for that information, the one on the main road from Glasgow to Kirky was on the right hand side in a field driving towards Kirky, but was in a very dangerous place for anyone to park, and probably was not noticed by loads of drivers who passed it Cheers again Flim

Waverley, a number of years back I saw an ordnance survey map of the Pentlands and there was a 'Covenanter's Memorial' marked on it. It seemed to be right beside a pathway through the hills. You don't happen to know anything about this do you? I haven't seen the map for quite some time. I always had a notion to walk in to see it (being a hill-walker in past times) and may just do it as I have recently taken to getting the wife to come on the walks.

Asbo it is ironic you should ask as when Irene and I went to visit the Covenanters grave last week in the Auld Kirk in Ayr we happened to speak about a certain guy whom we both know.I was telling her the story of how I was talked into visiting the Pentland Memorial and painting the railings and to be honest we made a right erse of it...due mainly to the fact that the siad person had bought ordinary paint and when painting the railings the cold wind coming in from the Firth of Forth blew the paint all over us and the memorial and surrounding walls. You can well imagine how I felt when I read in a Scottish Covenanter Memorial newsletter that the memorial had been more or less vandalised by some idiots who had tried to paint it. ;D www.thereformation.info/rulliongreen.htm

It's OK Waverley - your secret is safe with all of us! .... however, if I do get around to visiting the site and find the legend Parkheid Wee Men daubed upon it instead of random paint splashes then I may just have to shop ye!

Thanks for clarifying that. * I take it the Archbishop Sharpe who is mentioned is the same man who met the grisly fate at the hands of avenging Covenanters on the road to St. Andrews? *The General Tam Dalziel who's men dealt out a cruel fate to many a Covenanter is a forebear of the present day Tam Dalyell of The Binns, former Labour M.P. for West Lothian (and then Linlithgow) and also former 'Father of the House' (of Commons). (He is also an ex-member of the Conservative Party though he tended to keep that quiet. * " Unfortunately they chose to march to Bathgate on possibly the worst road in Scotland - over an almost impossible moor." By the way, the road to Bathgate is still cr*p!

I was never in any gang although I was always considered to be one of the Rebels because I ran about the flats at Helenvale...oh I forgot to mention I was a member of the Young Sash there were four of from Arrol Place. ;D
