adaline, your proberly right ,about magaret and her husband running the pub. but i never knew the man. your right about maggies other daughter, her name escapes us at the moment. by us i mean my wife too who knows her. she's doing her head in trying to remember. the ones in the family i knew to speak with were maggie, janice, and davie. iv'e had a few beers with davie many a time. in the wee ship and a few pubs at springfield road and parkhead/gallowgate. by the way adaline the first half pub,was my local. when i turned 18 of course. ps young davie lamont worked in the wee ship for a while, about the same time maggie was still working in the pubs. cheers jappo.

Thanks jappo, aye May was the daughter my sister knew.
My Da drank in the wee ship as it was just next to where we stayed on London Rd, come to think of it my Da probably drank in every pub in Brigton and so would his sister and brother.
My granda drank in the cosy corner.

the ship was the first pub i had my first pint. i was about sixteen, and the pint tumbler looked gigantic,i'm sitting there thinking, how can people sit all night, and drink all this beer that they used to bum about. but they were right, some of my older mates wre on their 2/3/4 pint, while i was still half way down my first. well i ended up drinking about 2 pints, then staggered home, only to get a clip on the jaw from my old man when i opened the door. never felt a thing, too drunk. i went straight to bed, talking to myself, never again, into the bucket at my bedside. cheers. jappo.

I heard last night that a pub chain had collapsed and several pubs in Glasgow had closed ,including The International Bar on Aitkenhead rd and The Cathkin bar on Mill St Rutherglen. I did see the for lease sign on the Cathkin but didnt know it was closed. Perhaps the Louden is part of the same group. Bye for now, norrie

ma uncle Francie worked in the Cot Bar at Queen Mary st..but diz anyone mind the Cameronian Bar alang near Heron st. Ma step da drank in the Balmoral. I remember when the Cameronians first opened it had a hard plastic brick frontage which we used to punch as we passed by which made people think we were really hard tickets fae Brigton. In reality all ye got was a few skint knuckles but nothing to greet about...the pub come restaurant was done up wi' several painting of red-coated Cameronians and a few muskets and swords. My mate's sister had her wedding reception in it way back about 1963'ish. I remember playing in the Cot Bar after it was closed and awaiting demolition.

Yes it was possible to go in the entrance on the London Road and come out the back entrance into Olympia Street. I recently acquired a photo of the Station Bar but I am keeping it for the new board before I post it.
