My son and I were going down Springfield Rd today we were heading for celtic park, he cut accross and went into Janefield St I just couldn't get my bearings and asked what street is this, then we turned into Dalriada St and the only way I knew this was the bend in the road the only recognisable part left.
This is the first time in years I have walked down this way we usually go by car.

The women in the fish shop used to wear wooden clogs as they were tramping through ice, i think they had the fish in a trough affair, a friend o' ma mothers worked there Peggy McGilvary. Alex Creamers was a great wee shop we used to go wi ma Granda on a Seterday and he would buy us a toy. The Dr. I remember was called Dr. Gracie.

Mamie, I think the fish shop opposite Edminston Street was called Jean's or she was the woman who ran it / owned it. I found a gold(ish) watch in there once and she handed it into the polis - I had to wait 6 months until nobody claimed it and it was returned to me, only to find out that the strap links were broken and it was really a cheap watch ;D

When I was wee the Drs were as Gibbsy stated, Garrett and Smith, but before them I remember my gran talking about a lady doctor called Dr Gracie and I think she might have been a bit of a tartar! I can remember sitting in the tiny waiting room to see Dr Smith or Garrett and it really feels like yesterday! Happy days My dad used to drink in Flynns and the pubs closed at 9.30 way back then. He used to buy hot rolls from a wee stand at the side of Tate's pub (well there was a shop in between - was it Galbraiths?) and they were delicious

I remember Dr Smith. He had been an army doctor, and was ALSO a GENTLEMAN,a REAL ONE.When my DARLING sister died,he had come to our house and told my parent's shaking his head,Sadly,at the most 48 hours.Yvonne was 34years old leaving two small children. a liitle girl of five years old who SADLY was killed in America in a car crash, and a son too of eleven years old.Darling Julie was only SWEET Sixteen when she died, only day's after passing her driving test, and NOT WEARING her safety belt. How SILLY YOUTH of TODAY can BE. So I THANK YOU with SAD,and also NICE times speaking with YOU Dr Vernon Smith also now has passed to a place where NO PAIN,and SHADOWS FALL.
Till we ALL MEEET AGAIN .......... Merci!. I will ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU WITH RESPECT as a DOCTOR,and also the times we spoke in french together which seemed to please you.XXXXXXXXXXX

Just remembered something about Springfield Road in the 50s. They were doing some roadworks on either side of the road between Edminson St and Malcolm St but the thing I remember was near the tram stop and Henderson's the butcher and the Coop, they had excavated a tunnel under the tramlines from one side of the road to the other and typically for us kids was running back and forwards through the tunnel at night after the workmen had gone home. Happy days! ;D

Hi amethyst....I think that is a different Dr Smith. He had his surgery in the Gallowgate. His army photo hung in the surgery. His partner was Dr Grant. Dr Smith was the best doctor I have ever had. He spent time with his patients and knew them and their family. His practice is now in Parkhead health centre with Dr Lafferty.

Hi Irene,Dr Vernon Smith has his surgery in the Gallowgate opposite the graveyard. I was 37 years old when Yvonne died so he was then a lot older than me. So perhaps your doctor today might be a son? Anyway like your doctor today he was a GREAT,WONDERFUL doctor.

Our Nana Adams lived right next to Celtic Park , Kinloch street , so we loved watching the throngs going to matches. Smith and Garrett were also our Dr's. When we moved between Sword street then Fairburn Street Tollcross , Mum walked up every time , imagine!
