Just spent a most enjoyable couple of hours on this excellent website. I thought John's book was also terrific, and can't wait till the next one is published.
It's great to read the work of someone who really knows his subject matter, and his enthusiasm just flows from it.

I had the great surprise of being contacted today by my old friend John Gorevan whose book we feature in the Bookery Nook section of Glesga Keelies. I have managed to acquire a link to our John's own web-site which deals with pubs all over the city...a great read and a real trip down memory lane. Highly recommended... ;D oldglasgowpubs.co.uk/ www.oldglasgowpubs.co.uk/index.htmlHaven't been on this site for a wee while but my old pal John just keeps battering away and coming up with some reall gems. Highly recommended for a good read. ;D

Many years ago I seem to remember being in a pub on Dalmarnock road called the Majuka (?). It was not the most pleasant of interiors and some of the furnishings were old cinema type seats. Is my memory playing tricks or was there indeed such a place?

the alexandra bar in duke street in the 70s the worst blood bath ive seen and jist 2 people involved and im sure it carried on from another pub in duke street as the victim was already covered in blood, as you know the ally bar had 2 doors, could go in wan and oot the other, well this fella came in already covered in blood and seconds later this fella followed, the bad yin picked up a bottle smashed it and jist kept smashing this lads face wae the broken bottle as he went in wan door and oot the other he wis unrecognisable, it must have been serious for that tae happen....dont think he did it fur missing his round....

Funny enuff i did a wee bit o research years ago oan that Maley as his mother was a Sherlock and a hawker and she wis fae the Calton, my maws mother wis also a Sherlock, a hawker and fae Tobago street, no very good at geonology so never got very far, tae keep it in topic my grannys brothers aw worked in the meat market and drank every day in the rob roy Back tae the thread, im sure hes been asked before Charlie, is there any chance o yir pal the pub historian John Gorevan wis related tae Charlie Gorevin who played in the first ever Celtic team, (note the difference in spelling but it was thought it was Gorevan until we recently found his gravestone in America
