I stayed (with my folks) in the tenement directly above the Clansman, and the fruit shop next door "The Orchard" until about 1977. My old man drank there on a fairly regular basis, until we moved tae Greenfield.

Had my first legal pint in the Clanny, wae fadgy(zeno) and sid. Hughie Campbell was the landlord, and on his wan night a week aff, well oot the way in Helensburgh he lived. The bar staff(wey there nice wine coloured jackets and big white aprons) would aw get mawkit. They were always a wee bit timorous the next night as the Hughie hid a spy in the camp.

Hi Davy, My mum worked for Hughie Campbell when we lived in 9 Whitby St., for a few years. Vicky Nice to here from you Vicky, I remember you and Jim. Jim was a couple of years older than me, but like quite a few on this site went down the same path of Newlands , Rivvy, the shipmates, lifeboys, and BB at Calton Old Parish. Gordon Blair was my captain in the BB after Mr. Wilson, sorry to here he's passed away. Tam, bad news about your George. I've still got him in my heid as a big centre forward for the 67th when we won the summer cup at Greenfield Park. I think he scored two that night.

I purchased an A3 copy of this page on Saturday when I was up in the Mitchell...bought a sepia copy in order to give it that antiquated look.
