With the sudden death of Tommy Burns it got us talking in the pub of players who actually were born and raised in the east end...so what would you consider to be the Gleasga Keelies East End XI. They must have a definite east end link and not simply having played for an east end team... So far the pool is I.Ferguson (Rangers) , T.Burns (Celtic), W.Smith (Dundee United) J.Miller (Celtic & Aberdeen), J.O'Neill (Aberdeen), W.Miller (Aberdeen), H.Templeton (Airdrie & Ayr United), D.Atkins (Queens Park & Clyde),

Wullie O'Neill of Celtic who was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima team...so he must've been a local to play for them.

Jimmy Sharkey who lived in Springfield Road (opp Riverside School.) He played for Celtic, Airdrie and Raith Rovers before going south to Cambridge. He is married to my cousin Isobel Burns from the Gallowgate. He played for Celtic in the 50's. Last year there was a big article in the Sunday Post about him.

Colin McGregor had a younger brother, Bobby I think his name was.
Does anyone know if the late Eric Smith, formerly Celtic and Morton came from Bridgeton?

Yes he did Patrick. Alao played for and managed Morton. Died quite young. He was a friend of my elder cousin and the two of them once came up to my Gran's house in London Road. Changed times. I mean can you imagine going up to your Granny's and finding someone like Paul Hartley there?

He owned a public-house in Hamilton, close to the town's Central Station and the Old Douglas Park football stadium. Thats where I recall him from. Pub still stands.

Does Pat Nevin count? Although he was born in Inverness he went to school with my sister & I in the East End. His primary teaching was in Easterhouse & Greenfield and he went to St Andrews Secondary school in Carntyne/ Greenfield, his brother was my primary teacher in Easterhouse. He played for Clyde, Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

jimmy mcgrory was born in the east-end surely he qualifies?? Since when was Millburn Street in the east end of Glesga...naw he isnae getting in the team you know whit the auld yins say 'ye let wan in, they aw want in and bring doon the standards of the place'...so I don't care if he was born in a manger underneath the Umbrella at Brigton Cross he's barred and blackballed indefinitely.
