Dunbar Street ran off 1304 Duke Street and was previously known as Dawson Street and named after James Dawson, a local builder.
The street no longer exists, it disappeared when the Forge shopping centre was built.

I remember Dunbar Street. It was on the left hand side (going down from the Cross) of Duke Street just before the Forge.

There was a little shop called 'Bridgets' at the end whee we usewd to bu a penny or halfpenny drink of ginger. It was poured from a big bottle into a little paste or pate jar!!!
There a rag store across from it where you could take a bag of rugs and get some money! At the cornewr was a fish gutting place which stank to high heaven and attrcated seagulls. At the corner was a church where the orange walks used to leave from.
When there was a match at Celtic park the buses parked in the spareground as we called it and the supporters used it as a toilet. Many a wee boy used the slogan.'Can ah watch ur car mister?'

I lived at number 52 Dunbar street from 1950, when I was born until 1954 when we moved to Barlanark. I remember Bridgets it was a sweet shop just next to number 52. I remember the rag store across the road. I remember the lamp lighter coming to light the gas street lights. I remember a family who lived in the close called the Taylors they had a boy of my age. there was a family who lived across the road called the McCanns. The had daughters. One was called Ann McCann. The name stuck in my mind. There was a family on the first story at no 52 called McManus. We called the lady Grandma McManus.
