BLESSING OF THE GLASGOW BRANCH STANDARD
THE ROYAL HIGHLAND FUSILIERS VETERANS ASSOCIATION
SUNDAY 4TH MAY 2008
INTRODUCTION
* A Service to Bless the Glasgow Branch Standard will be held in Glasgow Cathedral on Sunday 4th May 2008 commencing at 1100 hrs.
* Veterans, formed up by Branches, will march to church through the Cathedral precincts led by the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
* After the Service the parade will march past the Lord Provost and General Loudon at the VC Memorial in the Cathedral grounds.
* The Service will be conducted by the Reverend Lawrence Whitley Minister of the Cathedral.
PARTICIPATION
* It is hoped that as many veterans as possible will attend and, in particular, there will be contingents from Ayr, East of Scotland and Highland as well as Glasgow and South of the Border. Each contingent should be led by their Branch Standard and appoint a contingent Commander for the day.
* In addition the Pipes and Drums of the Battalion representatives from 2 SCOTS, 6 SCOTS and Cadet Battalion are invited to attend.
* Branch Secretaries, units and individuals not affiliated to specific branches are requested to confirm numbers by telephone to Home Headquarters by Wednesday 30th April 2008 latest.
* The Regimental Support Team have agreed to act as Parade Stewards.
1000 hrs - Contingent Commanders Briefing RV at the main door of the Cathedral.
1015 hrs - Contingents directed to and form up at the “Bridge of Sighs” in the Necropolis. (Directed from Cathedral by Stewards)
1030 hrs - March off.
1045 hrs - All seated in the Cathedral.
1100 hrs - Service commences
Glasgow Standard marched in (Piper required)
1200 hrs - Service finishes
Contingents form up outside the Cathedral.
1215 hrs – Parade marches past the dignitaries positioned by the VC
(approx) Memorial and fall out at the “ Bridge of Sighs”.
* Seating will be reserved for the Veterans. The Representative Colonel and other dignitaries will be allocated seats at the front.
STEWARDS
* The Regimental Support Team will act as guides/Stewards outside the Cathedral.
* Cathedral Elders (dressed in Morning Dress) will direct everyone to their seats.
ENTRY TO THE CATHEDRAL
* By the west door – this is the door facing the main road.
