People that get to that size should be banned from bakers, public transport and car doors shouldn't open wide enough that they could get in.Ones that are on beneifts should not get money ,but vouchers for a shop thats at least 3 miles away so they need to walk there and back that will soon get the weight off them ..lol

Aye, well, ah'm afraid, fur wance, ah'm no laughin. Ah'm wan o thae big fat that Alex seems so put oot aboot. Ah weigh aboot 28 stone (hiv actually been higher) an ah'm aboot 5 fit 10. Personally, ah couldnae give a monkey's whit anybody thinks aboot it, but ah wid like tae know why everybody think's it's ferr game tae make fun o fatsos. Naebody seems tae find anorexics very funny. but apparently us lardasses ur a hoot. Could any o you perfect, faultless, beautiful people oot there tell me why?

Ah'm no no sayin that naebody should make jokes aboot fat people, Holywell. As far as ah'm concerned most things in life are fair game when it comes tae a laugh, whether it's fat people, skinny people, mother in laws, gays, or whitever, but there's a difference between hivin a laugh an bein nasty tae others jist because they differ in appearance. There's nane o us perfect - no even the skinnymalinks. ;D

Your letter writer obviously disnae know much aboot phsyiology, McGoo. Firstly, there are people - admittedly few and far between - who have glandular problems which contribute greatly to their obesity. However, the vast majority of those who are morbidly obese, or even simply overweight, have a different problem. An energy imbalance.
If you're a navvy eating 4, 000 calories a day, but burning it all up digging trenches, you won't put weight on. If you're an office worker, eating 3,000 calories a day, but sittin oan yer erse aw the time, you very definitely will put weight on. Aye, that's right - fat people tend tae sit oan their erses a lot.
Wi some fat people - jist like wi some thin people - that's doon tae laziness, but wi other - seriously fat - people that's doon tae illness. Because they're carrying excess weight, fat people are more prone to crippling arthritis and other diseases of the joints, which makes walking virtually impossible for many. So, they sit oan their erse, an don't expend as much energy as thinner people who are more mobile. Because of this, they are not burning up the calories which they consume, so they become fatter. It's a vicious circle.
If you think that fat people are simply lazy gits, try a wee experiment. Get yersel a hundredweight (112 lbs) bag o tatties, strap it ower yer back an try walkin aboot wi it fur 24 hours. Ah think it might change yer mind.

I am overweight and it's because i eat too much and that's same with other overweight people. This talk of energy imbalance is just an excuse, fat people eat too much, end of story.

It is certainly laziness on my part and over indulging in the demon drink...plus I do like my grub. Gave up the fitba team ten years ago and I have never found a substitute for the weekly training sessions. Maybe a Wii Machine might just do it for me what do ye think folks.

I am overweight and it's because i eat too much and that's same with other overweight people. This talk of energy imbalance is just an excuse, fat people eat too much, end of story. holywell , we hear every excuse under the sun.. ' big-boned' ' kerry ah loat o watter' 'Am no weel' ...'ah canny help it ..am a compulsive overeater'..' Ma mammy used tae hit me - so ah've gote tae comfort eat! Never heard of the energy imbalance one... at least you and charlie admit you eat or drink too much.. and charlie no one would call you obese... And, how can one possbly compare anorexia with obesity?...anorexia is an illness - young folk are dying from this... obesity is usually caused by eating far too much grub.. you say you would like to know why some folk laugh at obese people or hurt them by being nasty? possibly because they kind of 'stand out in a crowd' due to their size... they're are the exceptions due to medical conditions, and that is a real shame; but its usually just eating thro' too much grub I'm sure most folk here are a wee bity overweight - food is a terrible temptation - we are surrounded with it.. Oh and none of us are beautiful or perfect.. p.s. the writer of that letter was wondering where the money came from to buy all this grub when he (or she) couldnt afford to and mentions bringing back rationing - so does anyone think that would help? Oh and no-one called anyone 'lazy gits'

Perhaps many fat people are the authors of their own misfortune but no one can deny that medical conditions such as Glandular or Under Active Thyroid are contributary factors and the victims are no more to blame than they would be for catching the cold. They are recognised illnesses. For those who are still in denial a little research might educate them before they condemn innocent unfortunates. Oh it was that simple

At the last gerdin party Eddie took photos and put them on the board he had taken a close up of me and when I saw it I thought my god I really have to do something so I gave up all the junk food and started eating healthily I also walk more when I can, I do have an illness and when it's active it makes me less active so I do what I can.
To date I have lost 2 stones would like to lose at least another 2 so hopefully this will happen.
Thanks for posting that photo Eddie never thought at the time I would have said that as when I first saw it I didn't like it or you for doing it but it gave me a good kick up the ---- and made me get off my ---- and do something about it.

I am overweight and it's because i eat too much and that's same with other overweight people. This talk of energy imbalance is just an excuse, fat people eat too much, end of story. It is not an excuse, but an established scientific fact, as reference to any elementary textbook on nutrition will inform you. If you consume more calories (in the form of food) than you burn up, you will gain weight. If you consume less calories than you burn up, you will lose weight. That applies to everyone, fat or thin, and that's how diets work - if you keep to them. The problem isn't necessarily that fat people eat too much, but that they eat more than they burn up in the way of exercise. As I've already pointed out, a navvy can eat twice as much as someone in a less active job and still lose weight. The difficulty for extremely fat people - those who are classed as morbidly obese - is that burning calories through exercise is very difficult, if not impossible, due to associated health problems, such as arthritis, fluid retention, etc. In fact, these people may be eating little more than someone of normal weight, but because of their immobility, they gain weight, rather than remain the same or lose it. As far as the letter writer talking of the money to "buy all this grub", it's pretty cheap to go down to your local Farmfoods or similar and stock up on greasy sausages, burgers, etc., not to mention cheap biscuits, cakes and so on. Obesity is not an illness, but anorexia is because "young people are dying from it"? Do you read the news? Type 2 diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in Britain, and type 2 diabetes is strongly linked to such illnesses as stroke, heart attack, gangrene, blindness, kidney disease. The reason given for this surge in type 2 diabetes is childhood obesity. And why should Anorexia - undereating - be seen as an illness, but overeating shouldn't be seen as such?

And Charlie dont bother posting that photie flashing yur big, big .......................................

A debate on this subject would be never ending. The way I look at life is, this isn't a trial period, this is IT! so eat, drink, and do everything you can, or afford to do, while you still can. If you can incorporate this with Health Problems, which no doubt we all have, and have everything in moderation! Go for it! So what! y'er a long time deid!! Jean

Adaline, ah'm sorry ah never read yer post - ah wis in too much o a hurry tae get back at aw these skinny buggers! ;D Aye, well done, an keep up the good work, ah know how hard it is. When ah wis in ma early 20's ah joined Weightwatchers, which hid jist opened up in Scotland, an ah lost almost 7 stone, but ah didnae drink at that time. Wance ah'd lost that weight ah started gaun oot merr, took tae drink like a duck tae water, an ower the next few years put most o the weight back oan again. Ah gave the bevvy up aboot 11 or 12 years ago, but it hisnae helped the weight any. Jean, as far as gettin tae the Gerden Party goes, ah don't want tae make any promises. The way ma health is nooadays, ah don't know how ah'm gonnae feel fae wan day tae the next. Mebbe if ah can lose a few stones, like Adaline, ah might make it. But ah don't fancy cuttin wan o ma legs aff! ;D

Billydan that's a bit drastic don't go cutting wan o yer legs aff bit as Jean says it wid be nice to meet you hope you will be able tae make it tae the gerdin party.
I gave up the fags aboot 7 yrs ago and this led tae my weight problem been tae weightwatchers, scottish slimmers even went to the one at the hospital which my doc refered me to and they didn,t really work for me as I only lost between 7-8 pounds after a few months so gave up as I was always hungry but after seeing that photo I went to slimming world and they taught me how to eat and what to eat with what and I am never hungry and I seem to eat more than I used to just eat the right things.
......thanks everyone for your wishes.
