The Begg & Cousland Wire Works is one of the oldest and original works left in the East End.

The works were built around 1888 for Wm. Riddell & Co., wireworkers. Various companies merged, including Riddell's to become Begg Cousland & Co. Ltd.
It is believed that the wire riddell's used to seperate earth were first made by the company and took their name.
