The Victoria Biscuit Works were opened at 35 Clydeford Drive in 1925 by MacFarlane Lang & Co. They had previously been established at Wesleyan Street by John MacFarlane in 1880, but biscuit production moved to Tollcross, leaving the Wesleyan Street bakery to concentrate on bread and teabread, and this latterly became the premises of Milanda under the Rank Hovis McDougall Group.

Got me stumped there eastendboy, may well have been. I don't know if Scottish Media Group, who now own STV have an archive.
I might just make a few enquiries in that direction. It would be great to see some of the old adverts again.
Going slightly off-thread, but my favourite old ad was for Jellymallow, a kind of chocolate/jelly bar. It was a liitle cartoon of a pop group, a la the Beatles.

Naw John you are not going doo wally as I remember there was a MacFarlane Lang's advert on the TV...the reason being my Ma and Da stayed in Cuthelton Street about 500 yards away from the factory and I was amazed at how a factory from the area was advertised on the telly. Vienna biscuits come to mind but I am not sure if it was for them.

When we were kids we used to go up to Tollcross Park in the summer to play and have a walk around the flower gardens. The smell of the roses mixed in with the baking smell drifting across the park from MacFarlane Lang was pure magic. Also Annies corner shop at the corner of Nisbet Street and Salamanca Street used to sell pokes of broken biscuits that I'm sure came from MacFarland Lang

Sad to hear that they will be laying off 89 workers at the factory. Things have been bad in recent months with workers being asked to take weeks off as part of their holiday entitlement plus sections of the factory being shut down...the future looks bleak for this once world renowned company.

Sad indeed Charlie, I have known a lot of people who have worked here at one time or another, my daughter-in-law's step father works there now and doesn't know what is happening.

Adaline I'm the same Adaline, my two cousins there spouses and there sister and brothers in law all work there .At one time my mammy and daddy worked there and two aunties.I had a lot of client's in my salon from there too. The loss will be felt wider than the biscuit factory. Sad situation

Our neighbour across the landing, in Maukinfauld Road worked there. Had a rich diet of the the chocolate covered biscuits over the years, explains the number of cavities.

I remember as a kid in the 1950s standing at the bottom, of Clydeford Drive on a friday night with other kids waiting on the workers, coming out with their big bag of biscuits they always handed out some to us kids.
