Runs from Parkhead Cross to Hamilton Road, and previously formed part of Great Eastern Road.
Number 194 was previously known as Hillpark Place.
At number 49 stood the Parkhead Picture House, opened in 1921 to a design by George Gunn with a seating capacity of 1250. Closed and demolished in 1960.
At number 64 stands Parkhead Public Library, built in 1906 to a design by J.R. Rhind.
At number 80 stands Parkhead Public Baths and Washhouse, built in 1905 to a design by A.B. McDonald, who was the architect for the Corporation, and who also designed the People's Palce at Glasgow Green.
At number 252 stands Parkhead Tram Depot, built in 1921 for Glasgow Corporation Tramways Dept. Now in use as a bus garage.
A billiard hall at number 22 was damaged by fire on the 8th of March 1962. The fire is thought to have started when intruders blew open a safe.
A 25 year old woman was killed and two other women injured when they were knocked down by a vehicle, near to Sorby Street on the 13th of March 1963.

Thats right, At Charlies you went up a close and up the stairs and it was all on the one floor(later became a disco) Allens was nearer Parkhead X and it was along a corridor and up some steps to the first level then you could go downstairs where they had more tables, Allens was the posher wan (in my opinion)

I see you didnt mention the salvation army place on tolcross rd is it still there pwm? Yes it certainly is patrick. About a year ago it featured on the BBc programme 'Who Do You Think You Are?' with Jeremy Paxman, who had relatives in the east end, that attended the Salvation Army hall. The hall dates from 1907.

It was Allens snooker hall that was robbed, in 1962. I remember it well I went up there the day after, and helped wee Wullie to clear up some of the mess, he gave me a snooker cue for helping him, trotsky, you were right about going along a corridor and up, the steps it didn't have a basement when you went through the door there was 5 tables and upstairs, there was another 7 tables.

Patrick I spent a lot of time in the snooker hall when I was supposed to be at school (Rivvie). This was probably 1973 - 1977. Wee Wullie was still there then an I remember he wore a bunnet an his jacket pocket would weigh him down with all the change he had. another guy that worked there when Wullie wisnae on, I think his name wis Archie.

Hi Gibbsy, wee Wullie always wore a bunnet, and his jacket, was always two sizes to big for him he was a terrific billiards player, thats where I learned to play snooker in the 60s, then we moved , to Dunn St from Delburn St and I started going to the workies, in the late 60s, Allen's was owned by two brothers Bob and Stuart.
