This picture of myself and Isobel at our annual Regimental "Assaye" Ball, held this year in the Pollokshaws Burgh Halls 22Sept. If you 'google' Battle of Assaye, you will find out why this name is held in high regard by my former Regiment. The (Later) Duke of Wellington led a small force comprising 74th Highlanders (later HLI & RHF), Seaforths (later the Highlanders) and the 15th/17th Hussars plus Indian units against a much larger enemy force and eventually won the day. At the end of his military career, Wllington (hero of Waterloo) was asked what, in all the military campains undertaken by him throughout his career, stuck in his mind? His ONE word answer......."Assaye". The wee lass I 'stole' oot the Calton 45 years ago is still holding up well.
