The tenement in post #3 was known as the Paterson Building, and as you can see it housed the General Wolfe, proprietrix Dorothy Forsyth, and the others quoted by Charlie. My neighbour two doors down served his time as a plumber with McArthur's.

Hi Charlie, I have just spotted these photos on Gallowgate, When you see these you realise just how much has disspapeared. Not that I know the area that well but I have cycled along the Gallowgate years ago. I do remember loads of houses along the London Rd just past Bridgeton Cross, does Kilp Cycle shop ring any bells? Great stuff. Bye for now, Norrie

Norrie,
1960 GPO Directory shows the Kilp (note the spelling) at number 649 London Road, next door to a pub owned by West of Scotland Taverns.

It was always macleans bar but always known as the grange and when the carlins took it over in the late seventies or early eighties they changed it to the grange, i don't know why it was known as the grange, i don't know if that helps, calamity.

I was in the gate pub one night (next to david st) and there was a photo behind the bar of the gallowgate at camlachie, it turns out ,the woman who owned it used to have the shop next door to the grange (it was known as johns).

I got a photo of the grange, off the guy that owned it at the time (pat carlin) so i could paint a picture of it, it hung behind the bar in the lounge. i wasn't really a regular, i preferred the reunion bar.
